Hello everyone! I posted on here a little while back and everyone gave me such great information and high hopes for my dad's future treatment options!
I have updated his bio, but just to recap - He was diagnosed on 8/15/24 with advanced metastatic prostate cancer (spread to bones) with an initial PSA of 4800. After a week of Casodex (Bicalutamide) his PSA went down to 3100. He switched from Casodex to Darolutamide, which he started on 9/5/24 and also received his first Firmagon injection around the same time.
At today's appointment (9/24/24), they switched from Firmagon to Lupron injections. We discovered he has been mistakenly taking half the dosage of Darolutamide! He was supposed to be taking two pills twice a day and he was only taking one pill twice a day (so 600 mg total instead of 1200 mg). His liver enzymes were a bit elevated on today's bloodwork, so the doctor wants to hold off on asking him to take the correct dosage until he gets more bloodwork this Friday.
However, even with taking half the dosage of Darolutamide, his PSA is now down to 27! We did not expect such a large decrease, especially considering he was not taking the full dose of his medicine. Is this large decrease just a result of the Firmagon injection? I assume this means the treatment so far is working well and it's a good sign? I know some people say not to rely too much on PSA numbers, so I wanted to check. Thanks!
