Jevtana

Once again I am asking for any information that can be provided from this great group.

Would appreciate any information for Jevtana treatment.

At doctor's appt yesterday, my husband's hemoglobin had decreased to 7.6 and he had to have a blood transfusion. His Alkaline Phosphatase went up again.

He will start on Jevtana on June 20th. We are hoping this will do him some good.

His last round of Taxotere was April 25th and he has not treatment since that time. His pain has come back with avengeance, I sure do to no treatment for 6 plus weeks.

My husband's Oncologist sent an order 6 weeks ago for him to start Pluvicto. The only treatment center in Houston. The Oncologist in Houston called last week and told us my husband couldn't have Pluvicto treatment because his Hemoglobin (8.6) was too low,

We contacted his Oncologist in Victoria, Tx. which has been treating him for over 5 years. The PA said they were not aware of the issue of Pluvicto treatment with low hemoglobin. Which they should!!! Then Pa starts talking about treating him with another chemotherapy called Jevtana instead of Pluvicto. That was not even discussed with his Doctor at the last visit. His Oncologist insisted on him taking chemo using Taxotere which he took 6 rounds of treatment. It did not work as well as expected. This was so he would qualify for Pluvicto treatment.

Thank you in advance for any replies.

almost 5 years ago when I found out I was Metaststic my Oncologist along with PC expert Dr Volgelzang (now diseased) decided I needed chemo as my psa was 194 and climbing….i was to take 6 rounds of Jevtana and if I tolerated it then take 4 more…..It’s one hour in the chair every 3 weeks.,,,You don’t lose your hair and I was never nauseated….,I did 9 rounds but the docs said my “numbers” were too low and to stop and not do #10…Jevtana along with the dreaded Lupron got my psa down to hardly anything ….So here we are almost 5 years later and I’m still alive…I’ve totally stopped the Lupron and will start Pluvicto in early July..,,I will be 86 2 days after my first Pluvicto treatment.,,,,

Thanks so much for your reply. My husband is 81 years old. As I posted, he is not able to do Pluvicto treatment at this time as his hemoglobin is too low. He did Taxotere which he took 6 rounds of treatment. It did not work as well (2 areas were still growing) as expected. The only side effect of Taxotere was he lost his hair. His PSA skyrocketed to 1658. Did you take Taxotere before Jevtana? I hope the Jevtana will be more effective then the Taxotere.

in reply toMsHope

No, I only took Jevtana (and Lupron which they had already given me)…I’m scheduled for Pluvicto on July 8. But my red blood cell count is below normal and has been for a while…Low to no testosterone also..so maybe I’ll not go for Pluvicto…I already don’t have much energy and Pluvicto no doubt will take what I have left…at this stage (86 July 10) I seriously doubt I could do 6 Pluvicto treatments, and what for?..,.I listen to the experts (oncologists) but I’m still in charge…Quality of life is most important to me…If I was 60 or 65 I’d probably think differently …

I totally agree quality of life it what is important. We were told Pluvicto could not be given if hemoglobin was low. My husbands red blood count has been slowly decreasing for a year. Thursday hemoglobin was 7.6, so had a blood transfusion.

My husband is having his first Jevtana treatment on June 20th. We are hoping it will be more effective than the Taxotere.

Hi Roxysdad!I'm confused... if the Jevtana and Lupron worked so well why do they want to do Pluvicto now?

I am wondering because my husband had 6 rounds of Taxotere and 6 of Pluvicto and now they want to do the Carboplatin with Jevtana & Zytiga (switched from Nubeqa) bc of Mets elsewhere.

Still on Eligard shots too. He is a young 66 in good shape but def does not want to do any more chemo!

in reply toWisconite

Sorry, I neglected to tell you I took Jevtana with Lupron about 4 1/2 years ago….now to the present….im scheduled for Pluvicto on July 8 th but have thought long and hard and have decided to pass on Pluvicto…I’m feeling pretty good and can do most things..,,,So why rock the boat?….The Pluvicto side effects would possibly be too much for me…..I’m going to see if my oncologist will start me on BAT again..,,Nothing makes a PC member feel better than a big blast of Testosterone!

So your PSA is rising or do you have Mets that have grown that they suggested the Pluvicto? Sorry just trying to understand tx!

in reply toWisconite

My PSA is rising because I’ve stopped the dreaded Lupron (ADT) The cancer inside is growing …I’ve been metastatic for almost 5 years…..Along with the 9 rounds if Jevtana I’ve had 78 Proton Beam treatments..,48 on the prostate and 30 at different times on “hot” spots in my bones.,, I’ve also had BAT treatments….so I’ve run out of options , but at 86 QOL is more important ..,after much investigating im going to pass on the Pluvicto….at this stage there’s no way I could do 6 treatments…actually 1 or 2 might finish me off….

My husband had 6 rounds of Taxotere and his last round of Taxotere was April 25th. It did not work as well as we had hoped. He is having his first Jevtana treatment on June 29th. Did Jevtana treatment help your husband? My husband's Oncologist sent an order 6 weeks ago for him to start Pluvicto. The only treatment center in Houston. The Oncologist in Houston called last week and told us my husband couldn't have Pluvicto treatment because his Hemoglobin (8.6) was too low, Last Thursday, my husband's hemoglobin had decreased to 7.6 and he had to have a blood transfusion. His Alkaline Phosphatase went up again. He has been on Luprom and Xgeva since 2018

My hubby did not have Jevtana yet. They want him to possibly start it soon.

Talk to the physician directly, not the PA. Mid levels are fine for some things but not for this. NP's and PA's are over utilized in the US, IMO. They don't know what they don't know. Always insist on talking with the physician unless it is just a lab check or routine f/u.

At 86, Pluvicto will probably knock the crap out of you. And at your stage it will probably only give you a few months even if it does work. You should think carefully about it. I would like to be in your shoes having made to 86!

in reply togsun

Yep, I’ve already come to my senses and you’re totally right…I’m feeling pretty good now and am able to do most everything…Still swim 4x a week….Tomorrow I’m canceling Pluvicto and seeing if my Oncologist will start me up on BAT again…my PSA is at 131, but who cares?..,Not me….When I had BAT for 7 months and no Lupron I was a happy camper…Even at 85 (then) I still got Lucky once in a while…if I was 60 or 65 I might feel different , but my clock is ticking and QOL is most important

I am sorry to hear about pluvicto qualifications issues. I had a similar experience my hemoglobin was less than 9 and sodium was less than 130, and creatine level was up. I was also not qualified for the clinical trials. I wanted to do clinical trials.

I talked to the doctor, and he started an IV infusion of Iron and another infusion for sodium levels. After one month, I gained my hemoglobin. Control the sodium and creatine. I also qualified for the clinical trials and completed 5 infusions of clinical trials.

Please coordinate with doctor and they should start treatment so he can qualified for pluvicto treatment
