Consult with Dr on Friday regarding Pluvicto

We are in Ontario Canada and my husband was on the wait list for the newly government funded Pluvicto., which my husband's oncologist recommended as the next treatment since all other options have been exhausted. Request was put in over 6 weeks ago and we hadn't heard anything from the hospital and hubby's PSA is rising rapidly. He had a Pet Scan and it is clear the cancer is progressing. We have a consult with the doctor tomorrow afternoon to find out if he will be approved. If not then it will be Chemo again. Any advice as to what we should ask or answer would be appreciated. My hubby is a young 80 and his quality of life if pretty good now. He has pain in his legs from time to time, however we will do whatever it takes to extend his life with whatever treatment will give my husband, my best friend a few more years. From a loving, caring and concerned wife.

Ask for both a PSMA PET/CT and an FDG PET/CT.

He did have the PSMA PET/CT scan. I would appreciate if you would tell me the difference. I have learned so much from your comments and appreciate your knowledge. So much so that when I go into the Oncologist appointments with my husband, the Oncologist is always surprised at the knowledge that I have asking the right questions. I have you to thank Tall_Allen

This explains why I think it is a good idea to have both PET scans:

My local docs want to resist the FDG PET scan, saying that it is not useful for prostate cancer. I think they are thinking of initial diagnosis. I've brought around my RO, I think, for an FDG in the late summer/early fall (six months following end of radiation), followed by my second ever PSMA scan after first of year (my first ever PSMA scan was 7/2024).

Docs in this area seem almost drunk on the PSMA scan, so much so that it's puzzling. Good marketing effort?

You might want to send this link to your local docs:

In PSMA-targeted therapy in Australia, concurrent FDG PET is routine.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

I did push and shove. I asked for the request to be sent to another location only 3 weeks ago. It is 4 hrs away and I followed up at that hospital several times and that is the one we heard back from

We are in Ontario as well. Not sure if you are from a smaller town but try through a larger hospital like Sunnybrook

There were only 3 options, Princess Margaret hospital, Ottawa and London Health Science Center. London is who we finally received the call from. My husband was under the care of Dr. Chin from 2017 to 2021, so we had the best chance there.

Try to get it. You hubby will probably live longer: x.com/DrMHofman/status/1901...

another option is to go elsewhere e.g. Germany, Australia if you can afford it.

Dr. Sen in New Delhi at The Fortis Hospital has been doing this for 10 years or so. She is on YouTube. It costs about $18,500.00 for all the treatments. It's a long trip over there so realize that. She knows what she is doing. Sadly my PSA is at .77 so I am looking to go. I did the APAC vaccines from India at about 2 1/2 years ago. Showed it was all over in my bones with a large tumor inside my jawbone. It was a large marble there, and many around my back and some small ones too. It's been 8 years and I am still here. Diabetes just about knocked me out, but I am better now that they gave me the pump. Here, the government will pay for it even though I'd been in the hospital 4 times with DKA. Just wouldn't pay for it since they figured I'd die from prostate cancer. My PSA was 212 at first. It's been a long road, and if you need it Dr. Sen will get you in immediately. Looking at possible radiation with what the PET scan says. If it's small they can do that. Hoping the best for you guys.

Thank you. We received a call today from London Ontario and it looks like my hubby will properly be approved. It is 100% government funded.
