I'm on 4th week of ADT (Lupron+Abiraterone). Yesterday I started feeling right upper leg pain in the quads area. I'm not sure whether it's bone or muscle pain. But it's getting worse. I can barely walk. At first I was thinking may be I strained it. But I didn't do anything different than before. I exercise and do weights lifting. If you experience it, how do you deal with this? Any starching or exercises? Any supplements like Magnesium, Barberine? Is this common or rare?
Thank you.

That may be the issue. You'll need to cut back on the Abiraterone and then slowly increase it to full strength. Elevated liver enzymes are a known SE and can be alleviated by reducing and then increasing. No supplementing is needed.
beginning with markedly elevated liver enzymes 5/21 ALT 799+ I have used OTC Liver/Kidney support they are filters. I like the Optimal Health product Liver/Kidney. I follow that up with Rife frequencies. All liver and kidney test ranges are perfect.
Hope it ultimately helps…..fortunately or unfortunately I am too poor to burn money on complementary treatments…..thanks for the link to the rife machine…..never heard of it before.
Thanks for the offer but there is nothing about this that makes intuitive sense to me…..I have a hard enough time comprehending mainstream tx for this cancer my brain can’t handle researching something else …..
Understand really, There are certainly many men on this site who can mentor you a bit. I worked in the alternative/adjunctive healthcare for decades. The ADT throws my mind into focus difficulty, especially initially, almost balanced to the most part. PM me if you want my help
Sorry you're having to deal with this. I experienced excruciating both leg, hip and feet pain after 2nd lupron injection. The 'poison from hell ' lasts until lupron is gone. Stock up on 800 mg ibuprofen or something stronger if you can get it. Two 6 month shots was enough for me. Lost so much sleep. Doing great now. Keep fighting. Good luck.
Looked like failure 2 years ago but added Ostarine and PSA dropped again. At 7 years 5 months looking like I am becoming resistant. Waiting on more scans and beginning Lynparza this week
Yes I have and I am unstressed by this. In the words of my MO. "Just starting your journey with plenty of options available." My female friends say I cant die because they aren't through with me and have more memories to make. Oddly enough I believe them
I had muscle leg pain upper right leg like a cramp & could not sleep untill I took Magnesium every second day. Thankfully I dont take Lupron but do leg exercises & now take Magnesium L- Threonate which helps with memory also. Maybe it will help?
You should have had your monthly blood tests (Required while on Zytiga)
Low Potassium, and Magnesium will affect muscles and is a side effect.
Also abnormal Liver function tests can cause muscle issues..
Yes they check every 2 weeks. My Potassium is 3.8 mEq/L [3.3 mEq/L - 4.9 mEq/L]. They don't check magnesium. But I am taking 1200 mg daily. Should I take more magnesium? Should I increase potassium level?
I don”t want to scare you, but it might be a bone met. My father discovered his cancer after having a terrible pain in the leg. The same pain...he wouldn„t know if it s the bone or the muscle. I hove it s something elso on you!
zeolite clinoptilolite. in some studies show anticancer modality, removes toxins and acts as a drug carrier agent, adj ph levels . list goes on . I started on 1gr a day now 3 gr a day 1gr /3 times a day. I read dose range 2- 10 grams a day. I am taking it very slow with dose increases. Detox can be harsh, I read dead cancer cells need waste clean out too.
Is there any swelling? I had leg pain and trouble walking. It turned out to be a blood clot in a vein that was being compressed by swollen lymph nodes. They found it with ultrasound scan, did a procedure to remove it, put in a stent, gave me some blood thinner and voila.
And possibly adding to the worry - when's the last time you saw your cardiologist? ADT is a known risk factor for cardio issues. PAD - Peripheral Artery Disease can causes the types of issues do to lower body blood circulation being cut off. There are some fairly simple non-invasive (ultra-sound and a leg BP test) to check for this. Don't let this go - PAD is a one way disease at the moment. The cause of the pain is nerve damage - and that doesn't come back.
After a few months on ADT, I developed edema in my ankles and calves, moreso in the right leg. I found it was better if I walked a lot and stood upright for about four or more hours a day using a stand-up desk. If I started the first half of the day off in a chair the edema was worse. Also, I found the edema was less if I drank more water and less coffee. Also I noticed muscle cramps were more prevalent using ADT, and I made a conscious effort to drink more electrolytes (such as mixing Gatoraid powder in water at half-strength to avoid too much sugar).
I started Lupron 6/22 and Abi 9/23. Minimal side effects from Lupron and mild heat flashes from Abi for about a month. I take 2800 mg curcumin extract with black pepper daily. I also take 400 mg magnesium daily. Blood tests are great. The first test since starting Abi and prednisone showed a slightly elevated white blood count but the most recent test showed everything normal and hemoglobin 15.9. If you look at my posts you will see I never ask about supplements, I do my own research. I suggest you do your own and discuss with your MO. Everything we take adt related is hard on the heart, raises blood sugar levels, lipids, liver enzymes etc. Now do yourself a favor and google curcumin and prostate cancer. Then google curcumin and liver detox, then curcumin and glucose levels/ insulin resistance, heart health etc. Another thing of interest is Celebrex paired with curcumin delays Pca progression to castrate resistance. The curcumin synergism’s the Celebrex and allows lower dosage. Best of luck and God bless.
Oh and by the way my bp is below 120/80 so you may as well google curcumin and magnesium for bp.
Thank you for your reply. Lots of useful information!
I was talking curcumin, berberine, turkey tail mushrooms and some other good supplements during the summer before I started hormonal therapy. All Oncologist pressure you to stop most of vitamins and supplements. They say that curcumin might interfere with ADT and also might raise testosterone. I already have higher blood pressure after 1 months of Casodex and then 4 weeks of Lupon+Abiraterone.
Currently I am taking D3, K2, C, Magnezium, Zinc, B3. B3 megadoses might help with cholesterol, but can also mess up liver enzymes on blood test.
