My PSA was ND and my MRI for glioma was OK - so after another Chemo - I took the family to Italy for us to enjoy the espresso at a sidewalk cafe along with gelato.
I can't seem to get them in chrono order so here are the explanation
Img 4227 & 1335 - from our 1978 trip vs our 2023 trip - I wish more than wine was better with age.
Img 5208 and 104457 - a couple of my espresso - just lovely - one was next to the Ponte Vecchio - I waited while my wife and daughters shopped for gold jewelry - probably the most expensive espresso i've ever had.
FOOD - I don't know they do it, but every restaurant was excellent (in part because of them all being owner run) Img 2216, 4148, and 4149 show some of the food porn - Img4139 and 4151 show my favorite restaurant in Florence - a pear and ricotta raviola that was better than anything I've ever had - and Image 1467 my grandson enjoying his first real pasta.
Gelato - Img 5527 shows me with one of my many gelatos - there is a huge differnce in shop so choose wisely.
Sightseeing - img 1851 shows me next to david - I'm the one on the left...with ADT.
So it may look like I'm emotional in Img Wa000 - because i'm realizing that this is the last time I'll be here. My right hand and my balance were issues that my family helped me thru and the everpresent hat to cover my incisions - but I did it and this moment will be with me forever
I have my next head MRI later today. Hopefully it will be OK but I know my clock is ticking so I am trying to do as much and fill my life with ones that I love.

First, there are no parking places in Italy - but they have upped their pizza game . I'll admit that US pizza is still prob the best (I live where Chis Bianco started) but their pizza game - esp w the buffalo mozzarella and fresh ingredients give then a runner up. But for Pasta - they rule

BTW They say Mussolini made the trains on time, he may have, but believe me finding your train in the Rome Termini train station is worse than finding a cashier should ALL the slots in Vegas hit 3 cherries at the same time...Take a bus........
Pizza nonsense, it was created in Naples over200 years ago and you still find the best pizza there. Doesn’t matter if the best pizzaioli working here are mostly from Egypt nowadays. When I lived in the US I missed it 😀😀😀
If you love pizza as much as me, you’ve probably wondered what the differences are between Italian pizza and American pizza. While pizza was created in Italy, it’s safe to say that it evolved and reached peak interest in the US. So let’s take a look at this evolution and how Italian pizza and American pizza differ.
Italian Pizza American Pizza
The Crust Very thin crust resembling a cracker. From thin to very thick.
The Sauce Olive oil, pureed fresh tomatoes, garlic, and oregano. Tangy and often ---------------------------------------------------------slow-cooked over the course of a few hours.
The Toppings One topping at a time or no toppings. A variety of toppings.
The Crust
Not all crust is made equal. There’s a large difference between Italian pizza and American pizza and it all starts with the crust. Most Italian pizzerias skillfully stretch out the dough to the point where it resembles a cracker with tomato sauce and cheese on it. It’s so thin and light that many people eat a whole pie by themselves. As an aside, Sicilian pizza, a vastly different take on the traditional pie, is completely different. It is thick, rectangular, and much heavier. American pizza, on the other hand, comes in a large variety of crusts:
New York floppy slices
Chicago deep-dish
Detroit pan
New Haven coal fire
Regional pizzas aren’t just restricted to where they originated though. Even in places not known for their pizza, you can usually find a “NY style” pizzeria or two. The U.S., unlike Italy, also has a large number of chain pizzerias that have their own unique twists on the crust.
The Sauce
Italy offers sauce that many Americans might not be used to.
Instead of slow-cooked tomato sauce like we offer here in the US, Italy uses olive oil, pureed fresh tomatoes, garlic, and oregano. This gives their pizza a herby taste that U.S. consumers may not come across often.
Then again, Italians wouldn’t be used to the tangy sauces that many American pizzerias use on their dough.
The Toppings
Americans have such diverse taste buds that pizzerias are required to offer a whole slew of toppings and cheeses.
Even when you order a plain pie, American pizza has much more cheese than Italian pizza. This is because, in Italy, whole pies are often consumed on the go. This means they need to be very light and digestible. It’s also the reason why Italian’s tend to not order their pizza with only one topping.
In fact, mixing toppings is part of American evolution. No other country offers as much variety as we do here in the United States. Whether it’s a meat lover’s special, the works, or something in between, American pizza is unlike any other pizza in the world. With all of that being said, hopefully, we were able to clear up the differences between Italian pizza and American pizza. No matter your preference though, we can all agree that pizza is amazing.
I guess you know your pizza - I can't disagree with anything you say - but my only additional observation is that the cheese was different. I gotta believe that they were using buffalo mozzarella - seemed more flavorful and had more "tooth".

Okay, now I'm hungry. Seriously, those are beautiful photos. What amazing memories for you and your family. I love the old photo of you and your wife. She looks a bit like Linda McCartney from back in the day. Hoping you and all the guys here, including my husband, can kick the can down the road for a long time to come.

I'll be doing the same thing next year, but likely in France, my secret second country, hopefully in September. Thanks again for some sunlight on this site.
thanks - and enjoy france. We spent a week+ in Bordeaux and loved it - the bakeries, markets, cheeses - and few tourists. Not sure I'll be able to do another trip but I do have the memories.
