Hormone Therapies

When I couldn't pass urine anymore due to enlarged prostate, I was given Duodart by my Urologist and told that I will be taking it rest of my life.

It caused severe blood clot (DVT) and both at the ER and a cardiologist I consulted, I was told that it is very high risk condition, because if a clot breaks away and reaches my lungs could kill me.

I stopped taking Duodart and DVT eased.

When I told this to my urologist, he was ignorant and told me, "well, every medicine has some side effects!."

Then he prescribed to me a Hormone therapy drug called Androcur, however when I looked up internet on the product information, Androcur has the same side effect listed as the Duodart, "it can cause blood clot".

Of course I didn't take it.

Please be aware of the high risks of these two drugs.

At the moment I am trying Valasta, after 6 weeks of taking it, my PSA doubled to 1300!!! The Chief scientist of Valasta said, it is a good sign, because when cancer cells are dying, for a while one experiences severe changes, he described it as a Bell Curve, climbs up and then descends, then all the markers start returning to normal, a healthy level.

I will continue to try Valasta another 2 months.

Remember, Cancer itself is a hypercoagulable state....meaning it causes higher tendency to have blood clots. Some plant based foods reduce the risk of blood clots such as Ginger, Turmeric, Garlic and Onions. I you are on prescribed blood thinning med , these foods can increase bleeding tendency.

Please go see a reputable medical oncologist. It sounds like you are going downhill rapidly.

How you treat your metastatic prostate cancer is your business; though it reminds me of the Brit 20 years ago who was convinced that drinking his own urine was a cure........ Duodart will mask PSA and is used most often to treat BHP. Avastin (astaxanthin) is a food supplement that is in my koi food. Beijing researchers are testing on mice for anti-tumor reduction.

Just a thought, have ever thought about seeing a Medical Oncologist who specializes in genitourlogic cancer? I understand that there are some top institutions in Australia with these type of physicians..... I wish the best of luck to you.

Run away from that Uro as fast as you can. Get a medical oncologist that treats pca.

Thanks for the advice on Duodart and Androcur. I’d offer some thoughts wrt Valasta:

— the Chief Scientist of Valasta has a built-in conflict of interest

— if it sounds 2g2bt, it probably is

— if Duodart was masking your PSA, then the doubling is more likely from the unmasking, not from PSA-dumping from dying cancer cells

— if Valasta is that effective, we’d be reading about it in peer-reviewed journals; we aren’t

— you may want to read this, from 4 years ago on this forum: healthunlocked.com/advanced...

Finally, I’d respectfully suggest that you do what Teacherdude72 and Tall_Allen said.

Are you suffering from both an enlarged prostate and prostate cancer at the same time? I had TURP surgery for BPH ten years prior to being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Find a competent, experienced urologist and ask if TURP surgery is a treatment option for your urinary issues. I took tamsulosin for BPH. It was a band-aid. It didn't work. I needed that "roto rooter" surgery to restore normal function.

Doubling of PSA is an indication of cancer growth. My husband had a PSA of below 2. It doubled to just 4.02 in a years time. Although the he had a normal dre with the below 2 psa at 4.02 his dre was abnormal and was diagnosed with METASTATIC prostate cancer! 5 Mets to pelvis and femur head. It was this doubling of PSA that is bad as a 4.02 in a 67 year old with no symptoms might be misdiagnosed as prostitis .I would be very concerned about the doubling of your PSA
