Hi everyone, I created this account on behalf of my father who was diagnosed back in 2021 with stage 4 prostate cancer that spread to the lymph nodes. He was originally scheduled to get a RALP in August of last year, but follow-up scans (ct and bone) showed a spread to nearby nodes (1 in the lower abdomen). Surgery was canceled by the urologist, and instead was prescribed Xtandi and a shot of Eligard.

We are located in the Northeast (Philly burbs), so went to UPenn and Fox Chase for second opinions. They both agreed with the decision to not do the surgery and instead explore possible radiation to the prostate and pelvic region. We decided to stay with Fox Chase where he is currently being treated by Oncologist Dr. Geynisman and received EBRT + Brachy radiation to the prostate and pelvic region by Dr. Horowitz in Winter 2021.

His latest blood test (7/18) shows he has undetectable PSA and had CT scans back in April that showed lymph node shrunk back to normal. He is scheduled for a Dexa scan and a follow-up lung ct scan (had some small nodules previously but the pulmonologist and oncologist don't think it has anything to do with the prostate).

It seems that we are lucky enough that Xtandi and Eligard is working. Other than fatigue and hot flashes, he is doing mostly fine symptom wise. I appreciate all the wealth of knowledge that if found on this site.

Horwitz is one of the best! Great choice of therapy. If they treated all the lymph node mets, including the lower abdominal (para-aortic?) one, I hope he is cured - 2 years of hormone therapy is required.

Great news. Don’t let his guard down. Get regular scans and blood work, cancer is one sneaky enemy 🙏
