Slight PSA Rise

Well, here we go again. On Xtandi and Lupron and Zometa.

Feb PSA at .31

May PSA at .29

Aug PSA at .21

Sep PSA at .27

Next test in Nov.

Hopefully just noise or random fluctuation. Nov will give more of an idea. At least we know what to watch for. And have some plans ready to consider.

Muff, we always begin to worry at the slightest uptick no matter how well we are doing. 😀 5 years almost into this journey and it never changes. Good that you can drop down to every 3 months. Makes things easier. Am at 3 months myself for Lupron and Zometa.

A small increase like yours happens all the time. They could be due to an irritation or inflammation in the prostate bed.

True. That is why I will not bother MO until our Nov appointment. Then will also have another PSA test under my belt.

Look for 3 rises on row.

ppulatie profile image

That is what I will look for unless I have a very high increase all at once. Glad I got a good team on this with me.

I have recently had 6 rises in a row. Im on zytiga, elligear, and exgeva. Plus on a clinical trial with Orilarb involved dont know what else. Psa is now 2.08 . Been in the battle 5 years now. Have advanced stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. Do i need to worry about these increases?

Wow! You have been through hell! In your case, the PSA appears to be the least of your worries. Getting the mets and the pain under control must be your primary goal. Doing that and the PSA may fall. But even with what you have going on, 2.08 is very good.

Thank you for the input. I get worried because ive been on lots. Including firmagon for 2 years that failed me. Scheduling radiation on right side bone mets with pain at rib wall. Had 45 treatments of radiation on prostate and pelvis. About a year leater radiation to my left hip illiac with unbearable pain. Also effected my bone marrow in that region. Got through it though. Lastly i had to have an automatic Metronic morphine pump installed in my left abdomin. It supplies me with timed doses of morphine toncontrol pain in my spinal column. Cancer in spine a few plases have destroyed 2 discs and i have 2 bone on bone rubing in my column. Truedvto getvfusion done but due to soft bone in. My spine the screws would not hold. Had to resort to the pump. At least my pain is under control in those areas. Near future i am told by my research team is possible collapsed spinal column. Boy... the things we go through to survive this horrible journey. I know there are so many others with much more serious issues than me. I pray for every one of them. Lets keep fightingbthisvterrible beast, and beat it in the end.

You have my sympathy for your pain and mets that are taking away your quality of life. You need to take care of that first. You can't fight the cancer if your pain level is too high.

LOL, they already caught me doing that. And punished me by giving me first a colonoscopy and then a cystoscopy.

Such fun it was. And with the DRE, told the doc I did not want to feel both his hands on my shoulders.

If your PSA does not double in 10 months then you really don't have to worry about anything according to what they tell me at the University of Texas Southwestern cancer center.

Good to know. Of course when starting from .21 it might not take long to double. But things are relative for sure. Hmmm, have Beef Barley Soup simmering on stove, so might be time for a glass of red wine.

👍 Taken me 5 years to get there. Just hate to think of it going up again. After all, got my little girl to worry about.
