Hi Roger. Diagnosed July 2015 stage 4. Prostate, ischium and L4 vertebrae, Immediately started on Lupron Had 18 weeks chemo (docytaxyl). No real hardship, not vomiting. All food tastes like metal and deep fatigue. Elected to a clinical trial for Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy to zap mets in ischium and L4. Trial requires a whole body bone scan and CT scans of head, abdomen and pelvis every six months, as well as PSA tests every three months. Trial lasts five years and just completed in July. I am staying in the trial for one more year as they have requested. This next 12 months just normal standard of care. No scans required. I have been on Lupron injections in the butt every three months, since I was diagnosed. PSA continued during the last six years as less than 0.02, so undetectable. I am 76 years old and a Christian for many years. I believe, according to Psalm 91 that God Himself has preserved my health. The side effects from Lupron, for me, are manageable. No weepy episodes, hot flushes very infrequent. I do get tired, so take a nap in the afternoon. Not uncommon for people my age. Biggest disadvantage is no libido, no sex but my wife and I had a good run🙏. My “manhood” is certainly not spectacular but that is the worst of it. My medical oncologist phoned me five weeks ago, so this would be five years post treatment, to discuss a Lupron holiday. We came to the conclusion that if it ain’t broke why fix it, so I will stay on it into future. One concern is osteoporosis but my bone density scans show no significant loss of bone density. I go to the gym five times a week and do a hard workout with cardio, machines and free weights to make a positive contribution to bone mass. If this becomes an issue I would get monthly injections of Xgeva. Very expensive but on my supplemental medical plan. I hope this encourages you Roger. God bless you and keep you.
