HealthUnlocked Search And Reply Invisibility

HealthUnlocked is great. I enjoy the value of the material and the personalities on the MaleCare Advanced Prostate Cancer forum.

I also mostly post replies, including detailed replies that could be root posts. But I was inspired to post them as a reply in the context of a discussion initiated by someone else.

Based on the response they seem to be well received. And I see lots of other great replies with good insights.

But when I search for one of my replies, in order to share it, or somebody else's reply, that I recall that has some good information, I don't believe they show up in the search results.

There has been a little dialogue previously about the quality of the search results and overall interaction management on the HU platform. I commented that, because a lot of the value of the site is lost based on missing features, that one just ends up "surfing the waves".

And I think there are missed opportunities to maintain a growing web of knowledge on our favorite topic of advanced or metastasized prostate cancer.

If I missed something I'd be happy to learn how to use the site better. Make no mistake, MC SPC is a fantastic forum for people with advanced or metastatic prostate cancer.

The HU search engine sucks! I use the "site" command on Google. For example:

site:healthunlocked.com/advanced-prostate-cancer/ "pseudoscience"

Ahhhh! The site prefix! I tried Google but it didn't work - because I didn't use the site prefix! Thanks! (I don't think I'm the only person that didn't know this 😃)

In case you haven't noticed, by going to a member's profile (including one's own, by e.g. clicking on the member's heading), one can show all of the posts or replies originated by that member. I have then used the browser "Find in page" feature with a key word (e.g. "somatic") to find a specific reply, clicking on the "Show more posts" at the bottom as need be.

For those who already knew that, good for you!

FB: Good point. That works OK for people who have zero posts. I have almost 300 or something. And having to hit "load more" 20 times or more is friction and time consuming. That assumes that I have the right forum member!

From a software perspective there's absolutely no reason why these problems should be a problem. Anytime you introduce a user interface cost you dramatically reduce the number of users of that interface. HU is a success despite this.

☠️Nah magnetic tapes are better. Just watch out for those giant magnets that can wipe out the information. ☠️
