Lupron versus Eligard

Been on Lupron and Prolia for 6 years with amazing results. Undetectable PSA the whole time after a post op PSA doubling time of 3 weeks. Went for shots today and surprise! No Lupron available??? Worldwide shortage???? So they gave me Eligard. Still very upset with the change as I didn’t want to mess with what was working. Any thoughts on potential issues with the unexpected change in meds

Lupron and Eligard are both leuprolide. Both are administered as two components which are mixed and injected. The only difference is (oversimplified a bit) the Eligard components are mixed and then injected while the Lupron components are mixed during the injection process. There are prior threads regarding the Lupron shortage, which you can check for more information. I experienced no difference, but few brothers have reported different reactions at the injection site. Other than that, you should put aside your concerns.

It's just a different formulation of the same medicine. Hopefully, Myovant will pump out the supplies of Relugolix so you can switch to that. I guess ramping up production and getting distribution will take a while, though.

I got switched last 3 month injection as well. No difference except back of arm injection ( instead of buttocks ) . Injection burned for about 10 minutes but after that ...same o same o. Getting another one this morning ... wooohooo.

I get mine tomorrow seems we are on the same schedule. I am sure it will be Eligard again as Lupron is still in short supply from what I can find. Did you get Eligard this morning?

I had the same experience. My oncologist assured me it is the same drug in a different delivery system. My PSA fluctuates a bit but I will be watching carefully. I have been on Lupron for 11 years.

Same thing with me. I got a six-month Eligard shot last week due to the Lupron shortage. My doc is not pleased as he says that his practice has experienced “some failures” with Eligard.
