Good Morning,

My father has prostate cancer which has metastasized to his bones in many different areas. He had his first treatment on Thursday 08/20. Treatment included a round of Docetaxel and a shot of eligard. He did great for 24 hours after chemo. He then has the shot of Neulasta around 24 hours after leaving hospital (Friday 08/21 around 7 PM). When he woke up on Saturday morning he has been in severe pain since, he’s having difficultly walking. He says the bottom of his spine and his hips are hurting. Has anyone experienced this?

What does his oncologist say? Is he getting a steroid?

Yes he has a prednisone! We were having trouble getting ahold of his doctor, I was afraid of what was going on. They called him in some pain medicine, she seemed to think that’s something he would be experiencing!

There is sometimes an initial pain flare because of an inflammatory response - the prednisone is supposed to control that. Hopefully, it will be just temporary.

We are hoping so! This is only day 4 since having all of the treatment. He was great first day and half. Then once he had the Neulasta he’s been in intense pain! They prescribed him tramadol, so we will see if that helps.

I have had 8 rounds of chemo and day 1&2 after are usually pretty good. Then for 3-5 days I go into "chemo coma"...weakness, brain fog etc. Require a nap most afternoons then it goes away and I am pretty good till the next round.
