Has anyone been on this medication and how did it work ? Were the side-effects manageable ? Recent blood work showed a PARP inhibitor might work for me...

Olaparib ??
This discusses side effects:

I am intrigued by their possible use as an adjuvant therapy because it may tip the balance when there is sub-lethal killing by chemo or radiation, hopefully at lower, less toxic doses, and even without BRCA mutations. There is a clinical trial for such a use combined with Lu-177-PSMA in Australia.
The link to Australian research at Peter Mac Melbourne is at

From this I could see that more Lu177 may be good, and an "FDG scan" may be needed.
I'm at yet another critical point in my battle with Pca.
I could not get all the video but the text was there to read from leading Dr Hoffman
I looked a little further about Olaparib for Pca and the extension of life was not very long.
It all made me feel I don't have very many options, but some men were getting 40 months extension to life with repeat doses of Lu177, or 3 times the median time for 4 doses over 24 weeks.

I am replying for my husband, Alvin. My husband is still in the ICU at Tulane Hospital (has been there since May 7th). He was on Lynparza (Olaparib) since December. After his surgery on May 7th ... one day later his blood numbers crashed, low blood pressure, low oxygen, and had a pulminary embolism (PE). Got him on heprin ... but his hemoglobin, white blood cells and every other "blood" continued to crash ... several transfusions and the Lynparza was stopped .... it took almost 4 weeks to get his blood back to an semi acceptable range. The only reason they can come up with is the Lynparza for the blood crash .... so, if you go for any surgery of any kind, you may want to stop it a week or so prior. There really haven't been studies done on it in this situation, that I'm aware of. Anyway ... he is still in ICU because he can't swallow and is having to get a PEG tube, which in itself, isn't a big deal, but his colon covers his stomach and he has a hernia ... so he has to go to general surgery to get it done. That will be next week. The surgery he went in for was to remove a tumor on his C5, C6, C7 that was pinching on his spinal nerves giving him pain and immobility in his arms, hands, etc. That part of the surgery was successful! Just all the rest has been quite a challenge.
As far as side effects of the Lynparza, yes there are some. One of the main ones was a total lack of wanting to eat. All foods tasted terrible (worse than when he was on chemo), felt tired all day and balance was off. But, also remember, he was fighting the tumor problem on his spine, so wasn't in the best of shape anyway.
The Lynparza seemed to be keeping his PSA in check, however. No clue on what his PSA is now, PCa, at the moment is the least of his medical problems
What was the bloodwork that showed that olaparib might work for you?
Have been on Olaparib for 18 months and counting. BRCA2+. PSA undetectable for over a year. Side effects tolerable.
