My dad's doctor wants to start him on the Lupron shot every six months. However I feel like most people I've heard about have it every three. Can anyone willing share with me what regiment they are on and why they are on it?
Background about my Dad:
Diagnosed 10/1/2019. Mets to pelvis (fracture of the pelvis), spine and ribs.
10 rounds of external beam radiation on pelvis and base of spine
10/4/2019: received Firmagon and Xgeva Shot (monthly)
11/1/2019: started on Abiraterone.

Lupron is available as 1 mo, 3 mo, 4 mo, or 6 mo. It's just based on convenience. Unless he is doing intermittent ADT, he might want to consider orchiectomy instead.
My regiment was 3mo Eligard (Lupron equal) of which I followed for a while! My T was 18 and PSA was <0.1 (=undetectable) throughout.
Missed 2mo’s changing Dr’s and side effects and was forced (quid pro quo(long story)) to resume treatment. At that point (5mo into a 3mo deposit) my T and PSA was the same.
I Completed my 18 mo (20mo’s actual) and started monitoring. 6mo’s later, my #’s are unchanged! Full blown ADT.
Added another 6 months and just starting to recover (T 103 / PSA 0.1).
Summary
3 mo deposit kept me ADT for almost a year. You can ask you Dr why there are only 1,3,4,6 mo dosages and they’ll tell you “its the manufacturers recommendations”!!! Why would want all that extra drug in you system if you don’t need it?!!! If I had known, things would have been different!!
Lupron ONLY chemically castrates you!!!! NOTHING ELSE other than side effects! How about 3mo depot with blood work at 4 or 5 mo’s?? Go from there!!! Maybe you can go 6mo’s on that dose!!!
Some men don’t have issues with this drug, some get their a$$’s kicked.
My opinion!!

Every three months for me. Corresponded to blood work and quarterly MO appointments. Note: for two years I had monthly blood draws, then every two months, and then quarterly. I was moved to semi’s one time, didn’t like it.... I missed the quarterly........
