So I have learned here that Genistein is allegedly good for us and estradiol is allegedly bad. Both are found in soy. I also eat a totally plant based diet and worry about getting enough protein if I eliminate soy products. Thoughts, suggestion?

Soy question
It is not genistein alone, it is the mixed soy isoflavones that are processed by gut bacteria to form a compound called Equol that MAY have a beneficial effect. Of course, this is far from proven. Many studies show no effect at all. But I'm glad you are taking soy as food rather than a supplement.
Estradiol is used as a treatment for prostate cancer. In fact, synthetic estrogens were the first medicines ever used to treat prostate cancer. They were largely abandoned when anti-androgens and GnRH agonists came along because high rates of blood clots. But that was from taking pills, not from ingesting food. To avoid the pills, estrogen patches are now used against prostate cancer, and to decrease hot flashes.
I was hoping you would respond. How do you feel about taking a separate genistein supplement?
A little edamame never hurt no one..
I was wondering if you ever was able to retrieve a copy of the study as I know in the past you stated you weren't able to or if you knew what journal it was published . I happen to agree with your assertions about soy and E2 and I will do my best to try to track down the study when I go to Sloan in early April for my next Lupron injection . Thank You for your insights and expertise . Edward
