ADHD with Post-Traumatic and Major Depressive disorder. Retired person.
I've had CBT for over 2 years, every week for the first year or so. Now, no therapy, just doing self-help. Which would be better, Cognitive Behavioral or Dialectic Therapy?
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Either. I've had both. Right now I do DBT and it's excellent. But ... the key factor in all therapy is the skill and smarts of the therapist and the bond you have with the therapist. My excellent DBT therapist is amazing... I put feelers out to other therapists. She's leagues ahead of them.
Bottom line: all great techniques need great practitioners to execute them. There ain't no therapy that can be done well by a mediocre therapist.
Now to answer your question: let's compare an excellent CBT therapist with an excellent DBT therapist. Depends on how committed you are. I would choose the excellent DBT therapist. And btw: serious DBT includes individual therapy AND weekly group therapy. Oh, my DBT person knows CBT as well. DBT borrows heavily from CBT.
I have tried both. I’m in DBT now too. Make sure you do it with a specialized clinic, but I highly recommend DBT. It’s weekly sessions, becomes group weekly too and on call services. They give me specific strategies then check in on if I’ve used them and I talk about a problem, and they give me idea of what strategy would work in that situation. It’s extremely beneficial. Pm if you have questions.
CBT, but you get the same type of thinking changing if you were to study law of attraction. I hold a BA in Psych and have been practicing Law of Attraction instead or in replacement for almost 20 years
