Anyone know a free online or in person support group?

I have been diagnosed with mixed type ADHD a year ago. At first it was a relief, but now I’m kinda frustrated. Therapy is very expensive. Adderall makes me feel very anxious. I’d love to join a support group that meets on zoom. Are there such things out there?

What is a meet up group? Where do you go to find one?

ADDA (Attention Deficit Disorder Association) offers a wide range of online peer support groups and work groups. See the list at add.org/adda-virtual-programs/. It's not free, but membership is only $10/month or $109/year, and they offer discounts for students and seniors.

Yes, I have found these folks. I think I will join. Do you have experience with any of the support groups they offer? Have you every been a part of any of them?

I went to a group for women over 50, and they were very welcoming and supportive. Unfortunately I'm a big chicken and never managed to go back. 🙄 But it was not because of any lack on their part. They're still on my calendar. 😂

If you find one, will you let me know please? ADHD hyperfocus is kicking my butt right now.

Well, I'm thinking about joining ADDA. It seems to be one of the very few real options available.

I have thought about that as well.

Welcome Lilwonder !

It depends on what you mean by "support group".

This forum has a really supportive community, so feel free to engage with us here.

If you want a live talk or face-to-face support group, then try the CHADD* affiliate locator:

chadd.org/affiliate-locator/

Or Meetup (which was already suggested), or check Facebook ADHD support groups.

* I've looked into how to start a CHADD affiliate group. I was told that only the person founding a CHADD affiliate is required to have a paid membership. The nearest affiliate to where I live (90+ minute drive away) charges a fee for meetings only to help with cost of the venue. Some others might be completely free.

Hmm, good to know.

I started a neurodivergence caucus at my work. We get together monthly and discuss the unique challenges that we face in our workplace. Sometimes we vent our frustrations and it helps immeasurably to have folks facing the same sort of challenges at work to talk about it with.

I'm wondering the same thing too. Is this site here active for people with adhd? I'm not sure yet if there is a lot of activity here. Could be wrong. I would think we'd need a lot of interest in order to get a group going.

Yes. I've noticed that it is not as active as I thought it would be. I have checked out other groups especially like on discord and they seem like way younger than me. Reddit you never know who you are actually talking to.

on the ADDA site they have a group for women over 50, if that suits you?

I don't have much experience with this platform as I just attended the first support group meeting last night, but maybe you could check out ADHDruids.
