Some success to build from - everything has changed in the last 6 months

Haven't posted here after my initial diagnosis at 51 six months ago. Boy, life has changed! I took stress leave from work for 90 days. A month before that started I got sober after 30 years of being a stoner and I started going to bed at 10 every night. Then I got medication. I started taking it at 8, but found it didn't last long enough, so I started a morning routine - tried a few different things over a period of a couple months and narrowed it down to one that works for me. 2 months now of waking at 7am - coffee, protein shake - 1 hour medium to high heart rate exercise, then shower - more coffee - eggs. Moved my meds from 8 to 9, then 10, next 11 and finally I take them at noon. This is been working now for 2 months and it feels great. Ive never thought myself a person who could do this sort of thing before, like at all. Ive also stopped walking by things around the house - I take out the trash when it's full, I run and empty the dishwasher, etc. I put myself on a good diet, cook whole foods, count calories and balance macros. I feel like I have conquered mornings, sleeping, exercise, food, and household chores. The middle of my day is unstructured and I flounder a lot in that, and I have to return to work soon, but the foundations have been handled and it doesn't feel hard anymore at all. I can look at that success to start moving to the next phase, which I am nervous about - there is much to do in life that I'm yet to conquer, but Those foundational things make it all seem possible. I am so thankful for the process of diagnosis, medication, acceptance and finally action. Above all else, for the first time in my life, much thanks to acceptance, I feel like I understand what it means to be satisfyed. The best is yet to come, slow and steady, and ready for things to break and need to be rebuilt without guilt or negativity and with the memory of successful action and the attitude of self love. Just wanted to share.

I’m so glad things are working out for you. Although I’m still trying medications, I don’t feel as much like a spaz like I was. I know how hard it is to quit any addiction, as my family has gone through that my whole life. That is a lot of changes. I do hope they are sustainable and you can totally keep it up!

Such a good good feeling!! I was diagnosed in my 50s as well and about 1 year ago...i think...cant remember exactly. I found that adding work in to the mix meant some adjustments to my plan. And it took me some trial and error. Plan but be kind to yourself. For me, I plan my morning around getting to work on time and day around concentrating and being productive at work and then my evening routine. I am not always successful. I'm looking from myself for about 80% success...I read that in a book about ADHD. Take the advice that helps and disregard the rest. Keep checking back with updates on how you are doing!
