I suggested this to my employer, @meijer, yrs ago as #ADA accommodation for my ADD. They said I straightened/neatened clothes too slowly. I KNEW doubling would work b/c it had before. They refused. I soon quit.

That was in 2017. My employer, a big box retail chain, saw work doubling as dumping work on others & not doing my share or feared it would mean too much socializing. They wouldn’t even give it a trial run. Co-workers didn’t think that way. It was #teamwork! We got MORE done that way! This is a reason retail has high turnover. Management can’t/won’t listen to ideas & accommodate or at least try something new to see if it works. Or they tell you, if we do it for you we’ll have to do it for everyone.

That response is not really "allowed" in the accommodation process. The standard is whether the accommodation is reasonable or whether it places and undue hardship on the employee. Did you just request it verbally or did you actually go through the ADA process?

I have only recently heard of it, but 2x now this week, so maybe I'll have to look into it.

I actually went through the formal process of requesting ADA accommodation. Which response is “not allowed “? Their refusal of my request for doubling? Or the art about “if we do it for you…”? I think you mean the latter.

I think the wording is actually “undue hardship on the employeR” not employeE.

I'm sorry they didn't accept your request. I hope you have a better situation now.

But now that an article like this is out there, maybe it can help others, including my story. I’m semi retired now and “between positions”. Thankfully, I’m financially OK.
