How do you fight game addiction?

I'm in my second year of university - I have a lot of assignments. I created a routine or system that I can manage my tasks, my daily stuff that needs to be done. In the first days, I follow that system so well. But in the following days, I often got stressed or something that causes me anxiety and I have to play games (LoL, HumanKind,... ) to feel better (yes games help me a lot). I see that I got addicted to games and I can't get out. I also break the system. I used to use Habitica for task management but nothing changed. This thing repeats many times. I think I am addicted to things that produce high amounts of dopamine, not just games. I researched and try a lot of ways. I also learned about CBT but I can't afford that. I create plans to research and find solutions but my ADHD stops me from following those plans. Please tell me what to do :<<. I see myself jobless and homeless in the future.

I don't struggle with the addiction side of things, but I thought I'd see if you had heard of this youtuber/twitch streamer since I have a friend who watches him and it might be more relatable and helpful

Hi raccoon_,

I don't about Vietnam but in the US most schools offer free counseling sessions for students and also coaches that can help people with disabilities succeed in school. I used my schools services for both undergraduate and graduate and it made all the difference.

It does sound like an addiction and not addictions need help to climb out of the hole that we dig for ourselves. You are not alone in this. Try finding other methods of stimuli like exercise and music and even caffeine when trying to study. Go study in a Cafe or someplace where your games aren't located. Maybe even get rid of them if it is that big of a struggle. If your anxiety is causing problems, trying finding the causes of it. Talk to others about how they cope with their anxiety. I exercise as much as possible to help with my anxiety. You aren't along with this. Finding a community support is key to success! :)

Hey Raccoon. As a fellow gamer and university student(now drop out) I would suggest a radicle approach of deleting all your games all together and only keeping your save files. So that you can continue during the holidays. I tried to quit myself but I'm on Trails of Cold steel 😭 damn it. I understand the paralyzing fear of the future. I have it too. Be honest with your parents and tell them you might think you have ADHD. It takes some time to do convincing especially if your parents are part of the generation that doesn't believe in Mental health

I’m not addicted to games, but have considered joining a screen anonymous group- 12 step program for screen addiction. I think there are groups online. 12 step programs are great.

I was diagnosed at 46 and also love gaming. When I am in deep on the gaming I try to set it up so I won’t play all the time. I lock my controllers in a drawer and put the key to that drawer in my car. That prevents me from just turning it on anytime the need strikes me. If you can’t do that (PC gamer for example) I suggest doing what Mwelwa suggests above and deleting your games all together and keeping the save files. Maybe download a less engaging game on your phone that you can more easily break away from but still provides you some calming relief?
