Amitriptyline & ADHD

Hi all,

About a week ago, I started on amitriptyline for chronic pain, and since I about 2 days ago I've noticed my ADHD getting worse. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this with amitriptyline or any kind of similar pain medication? I know it's a shot in the dark haha, but figured I'd ask!

Thanks, have a great day 💕

I am on amitriptyline but for insomnia. I was taking 50 mg for a while and it started to not help anymore but was increased to 75 mg a couple months ago. I cannot tell if my ADHD is actually getting worse or if I am just noticing it more because I started college recently. What I can tell you is that there are a lot of very common side effects with the drug. I have been researching recently about it because my vision started to become really blurry after I had taken it. I have never had any problems with my vision, I was trying to read a package and no matter how far or near I placed the package I literally could not get my eyes to focus. It does not continue when I wake up though. So, to answer your question, I would log what seems to be getting worse and anything else that seems abnormal to you. There are also a fairly large list of drugs that interact with amitriptyline.

Amitriptyline (Elavil) and similar drugs. can decrease the effectiveness of some medications used to treat ADHD. Talk with your pharmacist. Sometimes a increase, decrease or change in medication is helpful.
