SHAME 😬

I understand that what very often gets in the way of recovery and growth in general is Deep/ Toxic Shame.

Naturally, as someone with ADHD and other "stuff", I have developed this type of shame.

Can anyone share their experience in overcoming it?

Someone confronted me on my bringing too much stuff to church. There was a luncheon and I felt the need to bring a beach wagon to carry but I only had one container of food and the rest was other stuff. The wagon was to big to be left in the entry but the person purposely left her purse in the doorway so I could not take the offensive wagon back to car. Now my about my shame,

I was in mental health treatment for a long time, then I went to college and got two associate degrees. I also was in every job search program in our city over the years. I have the binders from a Business Development company as well as a collection of ADHD seminar and class homework sheets. There is actually more stuff from the last 15 years. This is good information to have, but it was piled instead of filed. It took 7 years to get full rights to a whole room to store it in one place but I also keep my clothes and everything else this body needs in that room. There was a lot of shame seeing the mess and clutter. Filing is time consuming but If I don't file; why keep stuff, if I can't find what I am looking for when I want it. I've been wanting to write a book and help others, but it seemed I needed a handle on better information management before I try to do anything else. If I get well enough organized, it will be a success I can build on. Hopefully, as I figure out how to keep going back to file despite interruptions and distractions, it might help me figure out how to keep writing once I start again. I have written different things over the years but they also are mixed in with everything else. I have too many notebooks (many are not used yet) and pieces of paper. They need labeled and categorized. I don't want to be a hoarder. Oh, we have a dog that needs lots of exercise and attention. She gets me...How did I let my stuff get out of control?

I suggest checking the podcasts from ADDitude magazine, they have lots of good advice on a bunch of topics from a bunch of experts! I know they have an episode on getting organized.
