Hey Nolan,

I am doing ADHD coaching work with several clients as I complete my certification. I'd be glad to set up a 30-minute call (free) to ask you what you're looking for.

Hi Nolan,

Great resources to find a coach are on the CHADD website and thru ADDitudeMag.com. Most coaches will offer a free call to check on coachability and to make sure coachee and coach are a personality match. You have to feel safe with the coach to be vulnerable and to try new things.

I am a certified life coach with specialized training in ADHD coaching. I help adults with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD to understand how ADHD is showing up in your life and partner with you to create strategies that work for you to meet your goals. Please PM me if you want to set up a complimentary exploratory call. Good luck!

What about individuals that have been in the trenches for years. Extreme high risk& high reward things people wouldn't dream of doing.

It's nice claiming to be a life coach have you spent 50,000 hours looking for things. Were you a Ferrari going faster and faster death can be the penalty.I wrecked a car going 150 I shouldn't be here period.

There are a very specific subset the worst cases ,They are very intelligent but engage in the riskiest behavior, substance abuse, bad outcomes.

You can't life coach this population, you need to keep them alive , drug and criminal charge free. That is first and very difficult it took me years to become enlightened to this point. Most have to see the worst first hand so they know that could easily be them.

The specialist's I see think I am the ideal coach. Everything was tried on me nothing worked. I can truly help people , but most don't meet my . I went to a major university took my psych there. I need a certificate to coach when I'm a veteran of the never ending battle?

Hi Gjs80,

It sounds like you have been thru a lot and have made a lot of progress in understanding yourself. Congratulations. It sounds like you tapped into an inner strength and belief in yourself that many ADHDers have.

I'm not 100% sure I understand your post but I will try.

You are correct. Not everyone is at the stage in life where they are a candidate for coaching. You have to be willing and able to look at things differently and to try new ways of doing things. If someone is stuck, then they are not coachable at that time. Doesn't mean they won't get there with time and the proper help but not a candidate at that time. This is in part why coaches want to have that first initial call to see how coachable someone is.

Many ADHD coaches have ADHD themselves. I do and didn't know until later in life. Many women are the quieter inattentive subtype and diagnosed later in life. All of our journeys are unique and personal. I have come to terms with my ADHD and now see it as a helpful tool to connect and work with my clients. They know that I have similar struggles, need strategies and appreciate that I come from a place of understanding, non-judgement and experience.

It sounds like you are considering coach training. Your ADHD journey would definately resonate with ADHDers with journey's more like yours. In my opinion, having a coaching certification with specific training is critical for many of the reasons you point out. ADHDers are a high risk population in part because of all the negative messages we have received in our lives, how our brain are wired and from being untreated. Having a knowledge base and knowing how to partner with someone takes specific training.

In any case, I wish you luck with whatever you decide to do with your life. You clearly have the strength and insight to create a life you want.

I was not coach able, but have insight into the malady that few do. I have never watched a sitcom I was always studying Neurology and chemistry and the myriad of pharmaceuticals for twenty years. Now I can get any preauth approved I can navigate the system and save people tons of headaches, spin and never getting what they really need. Life coaching isn’t for me, but saving lives is. I am looking towards young adults and older ones, but not children they couldn’t handle my methods or comprehend is the proper word. The fact that I have to take a course that’s 7,500 to be able to help people. That will never happen I probably know more than anyone teaching me on anything Neurological or ADHD related. I wasn’t quiet I was disruptive and flipped my dad’s Mercedes approaching 150 I was drug into a criminal conspiracy and charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity we did it for seven years it was the risk the ultimate thrill better than any drug. My dad is a doctor as well as my sister and cousin I grew up with everything I wanted, but yet never had enough and had to engage I engaged in high stimulating possible deadly behaviors. I’m not oppositional defiant I just don’t acknowledge bs.

That’s my whole point people like me don’t need that certificate I went to college three years Psych 101 and beyond, general chemistry and I know proper doses and side effects as every med. Most insurance won't even cover a high enough dose. I threw Vyvanse in the trash. You should start with making sure the nutritional building blocks in place magnesium, bio available B, Nuero optimizer, etc.

I am not saying I am better than anyone, but I think I can be more effective because I have more lives than a cat. My ADHD and high risk behavior mixed with 5 prescription sedatives at a time. Have you ever woke up with your car in the middle of a corn field because you were so screwed up? Rolled a E450 swerving to miss an old lasted and rolled the car like it was a barrel. Seven years caused a lot of reflection. The problem is no insurance covers it and my type of ADHD we don’t look for coaches at least I didn’t they didn’t exist then. I did it all on my own. No I won’t your child’s homework I don’t want to babysit and enable no matter how much I’m paid that’s not helping them.

Due to the varying degrees minor cases can help themselves, knowing how to navigate the health care system like I have to the point I’m on two brand-new ADHD meds the healthcare system and convincing a doctor you have ADHD can take a while unless it’s painfully obvious. These certifications like the one I saw was 7,500 that’s more than a semester of school by far. People are out to exploit there is room for everyone but only people like me will they even consider listening. Thanks for the reply's I'm always looking for advice or others insight. Thank you

Hi, my best advice is to contact a few ADHD coaches and see who feels right for you. I’m happy to be a part of that group. I’m a certified ADHD Coach with over eight years experience. Need I say, I love what I do.

Good luck,

Lee
