Hi Frances2019,
I researched loads and loads of techniques, articles, books etc on how to ‘focus’. That was before I found out I had ADHD.
A lot of it was based around mindfulness etc which I’m sure you can find a lot of techniques and advice on. It helped a little with me but not a great deal. It can take along time to ‘train’ the brain like that. But it’s certainly helpful.
Now I find things like a really good sleep regime, finding out what nutrition is best for those parts of the day when my mind is more prone to wonder. Regular breaks and mini walks. And I also have a smart watch which has an app that kind of brings you back to what you are meant to be doing by taking a one or two minute meditation.
The other thing is making an achievable study plan and invite someone to be accountable to. Another student, a friend with a project etc. It can be online if necessary. You beat procrastination by starting in the tiniest way. Or that Mark Twain quote that I’ll proceed to mis-quote ‘ if you’ve go to eat a frog it’s best to do it in the morning.. if you have to eat two then eat the biggest first.
I don’t know if any of this helps but good luck and have faith in your abilities!
One book I found particularly good was by Rob Moore called “Start now Get perfect Later”. I found it helpful.
Hi!!!
I have two University Graduation ( in Brazil we graduate in high school and goes to the University in a specific course for 5 years, and we already can exercise that profession) before being diagnost for ADAH, so how I did it? I suffered a lot but I thit questions all the time, because It helped me to put meaning to the subject and I used to think about that person was saying in class and do a few links whit situations that represented that information, but I graduated in Philosophy and Psychology, It's easier for subjective subjects.
But when I started to work, things when south.
So you have to find ways that helps you learn despite you difficult of attention, do some research about how to learn or how organize yourself for studies.
But do not forget, you have a different way of functioning do not be mean to yourself.
Hi Frances2019,
I’m a 44 year old mom of 3 kids ages 6, 9 and 12. I have adhd and finally found a regimen that helps me focus, gives me energy, and keeps depression at bay. I get up at 6 am, take my Choline 300mg+Adderall 5mg+1/2 caffeinated coffee along with protein powder with my morning Bible study and I’m on a roll. This along with stretching before bed, low sugar and wheat, lots of vegetables, fruits and proteins keeps me going strong.
Hope this helps!😀
Hi there, not sure if you're going to be disregarding supplements, anyway.... I have inattentive adhd and take stimulant medication along with multiple supplements. Stimulant medication takes care of the neurotransmitters Dopamine and Norepinephrine, but we also have issues with low levels of Acetylcholine, Serotonin, and B-12. This can make life and studying very difficult.
I am currently finishing Grad School and plan on pursuing my PhD. in order to become a Clinical Psychologist to work with the ADHD community specifically. The two biggest supplements that have helped me school wise have been the supplements PS100 (really helps with staying focused for very long periods of time, retain large amounts of info, and helps with fluidity of thought/speech), and the supplement R-Alpha Lipoic Acid helps greatly with helping interpreting information in a faster manner. I made a google doc of every supplement I take and how they specifically help those neurotransmitters I mentioned above, and how they help people with ADHD. If you're interested in seeing it, you can click my pic and it will take you to my profile where in the bio section you'll find the link. Hope this helps.
