Hello, I have an almost 7 year old who was diagnosed with combined ADHD and ODD this year. I joined CHADD in hopes that there would be support groups, meaning, meetings, with other parents to talk about our journeys etc. Most of the meetings have been educational and not really space to talk. I was curious if there is anywhere that offers this.

I’d be interested to know any answers to this as well. My son is nearly 6 and was diagnosed ADHD a few months before his fourth birthday and it’s been a tough few years with more ahead. While there are a number of non-pharmaceutical interventions and services available for his age we’ve employed, with my son’s behavioral regression lately coupled with extreme sleeping issues he’s suffered from since he was a baby, I’m at my wit’s end and would love support too, which has been frustratingly difficult to find (CHADD has been disappointing for me in that respect). I’d also be comfortable organizing a small, unofficial one if others were interested. This forum has been great but yes, live support is something else. Not sure if that’s a done thing and I apologize if that’s inappropriate, but being tired and desperate and overwhelmed, I’m willing to try anything to help me as a parent work through all this myself.
I completely agree with you. My almost 9yo daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD almost 6 years ago and we have struggled with her behavior since she was a baby. We have tried several interventions and treatments. Fortunately, she has made a significant degree of improvement, but there continues to be daily challenges with her behavior. So I’ve had this huge weight on my shoulders and stress her entire life, yet I feel I have no support for myself to help cope with the stress. I have gone to therapy, but that only helped temporarily. I joined this site hoping to find a parent support group, so I could have regular meetings (just as the author of this post is seeking), yet I was disappointed to not find any. I even asked my daughter’s care team for resources for parent support groups and was told they didn’t know of any. It’s really unfortunate that we as parents have so little support throughout this challenging journey.
I am under the impression that the parent support group for CHADD has been down for a bit but is scheduled to come back (locally for me) ? I think the host was away. There is an adult CHADD support group also I know that mine is local but people attend from elsewhere. By attending the adult one I was invited to the discord where there is a parent chat thread also. Hope this helps! But yeah--- would like to see more.
I couldn’t agree more about the importance of support. I hope to one day start a parenting support group in the town I live in. It has been so difficult not having many other people to confide in (aside from this forum which has been helpful!)
Tilt Parenting is another option to consider. Tilt provides help for people to start parent support groups and it also has an online community option called “Tilt Club”. It might be worth checking out.
I have a 4.5 year old with the same issues. I would be interested to know if you find anything. I am also struggling on my own and am looking for the same support.
