I need help with finding Parent Management Training. What have you used? In person or online?

My son's psychiatrist told me to do parent management training and said to do my research. I wanted people's feedback on what they used and how it's going for them.

Thank You!

If you can't find trained parent coaches, look up Pax Good Behavior Game. Google Pax GBG. Pax uses physical activity rewards to encourage positive behaviors. While it is primarily an elementary school teachers' strategy that has been shown to reduce negative behaviors in school by 90 %, the strategy can also be used at home. Used correctly in school, Pax actually strengthens the prefrontal cortex decision making circuits of the brain so that all kids, especially highly active ones, start developing self-control and self-regulation instead of just responding to external discipline. Cited by two US Surgeon Generals and in multiple National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) reports.

For your purposes, find quick activity rewards you can use when he does what you want, e.g. "if you get in your pajamas before the timer goes off (set timer for ?4? minutes, shorten timer when he achieves goal) you can walk and squeal like a monkey for 2 minutes." Again set the timer and when it goes off he has to get in bed, brush teeth or whatever. (Without you chiding him) That is the part that allows him to practice his self-control. Do this every chance you get. The reward can be 15 seconds if that is all the time you have.
