Hey guys

I have a 11 year old who has adhd combined type

And supposedly mood dysregulation disorder, i say suppostly because a psychiatrist haven't diagnose him yet. Anyways my son dont like to do school work he gets very frustrated when we have to do the hw or when i tell him to do anything like shower or clean his room. I dont know what to do anymore , we take away his cars , his ps4 i dont let him play roblox if he miss behaves but it seems like is not helping. He already hit me twice just because he didnt get what he wanted. Im scared that when he is bigger he is going to be out of control , have a small baby and im scared for her. He was never agressive that started months ago, any recommendations ? Maybe some of you guys have been through this same situation. He is on medication.

Sorry to hear that. My son is 12, has ADHD combined type and just started having similar issues last year. We've been through three psychiatrists and the last one added a Generalized Anxiety Disorder diagnosis. We just got him on anti-anxiety medication which I think will really help. We also got him in an IEP and the district is paying for counseling services starting next week. Stay positive and keep trying new things until you find something that works.

Thanks for posting this message. Our son is 13 years old and I know we have gone through rough patches also.

I really enjoy learning from Podcast. Right now Penny Williams is doing a podcast called "Parenting ADHD". I have learned so much about how to parent listening to her. More specifically when our children have negative behavior this is a form of communication. We can learn what they are "trying to say".

One thing that has helped me a lot is in the AM our son and I say, I have this to do at this time. He will say I have this to do and I will add the chores and "creative time" and I say when do you want to do these tasks. This helps that I am not saying... at 10:30 you will...

Another thing I have learned which has helped a lot is I punish "forward" not in current time. So if I have asked for him to do something and he says "I am not doing that", I say OK... then when the day is over I take his phone and he has no electronics the next day. I explain, yesterday you didn't do what is asked so there will be no.... There is no fighting, when he starts to get mad an slam, I walk away and I don't address it at the time. I wait until later or the next day. I say I know you had a hard time when I asked you to do... and we talk about it.

Not sure if any of these help you, but just know that if he is on medication and you are having these extreme mood swings, time to change the medication ( we only work with a psychiatrist for medication).

Hope you figure out the best way to work with him.

Take care,
