What supplements, vitamins do you recommend for 12 years old child. My son is on Focalin which is suppressing his appetite?

Thank you

Hi there, I myself have Inattentive ADHD. Having ADHD, implies that an individual has low levels of these specific neurotransmitters. While stimulant medication helps with Dopamine and Norepinephrine, this leaves out other neurotransmitters that needed to be boosted due to low levels. These are the major neurotransmitters that people with ADHD have low levels of.

Dopamine : A neurotransmitter in the brain that affects your levels of concentration, motivation, pleasure senses, and sense of pain.

Norepinephrine : A neurotransmitter and stress hormone that deals with attentiveness, emotions, impulse control, planning ahead, sleep, and interpreting actions of others.

Serotonin : A neurotransmitter that deals with mood regulation, sleep, nervousness, empathy, appetite, digestion, and sexual urges.

Acetylcholine : A neurotransmitter that deals with muscle contraction, pain responses, mood regulation, REM sleep, and coordination.

Supplements along with stimulant medication, have been of major help to the ADHD clients I work with. If this is of any interest, click my profile pic, it will take you to my profile, where in my bio you'll see there's a link of a google doc I made of every supplement I take that includes ones specifically to help those low neurotransmitters I mentioned above, along with some other helpful links and a helpful video I made conveying this info. Hope this helps.

I would recommend you look into broad spectrum micronutrients. There are two companies, Hardy Nutritionals and True Hope.

My grandson was on it with adjustments from kindergarten until 6th grade when it suddenly stopped working. I always made sure he had a big breakfast before his meds kicked in and a big dinner. He rarely ate much lunch at school but his pediatrician said he was healthy.

He is now 6ft tall and on Intuniv with a mood stabilizer.

My son has been on Accentrate for over a year and has been doing great. Accentrate has omega-s and vitamins that help make neurotranmitters. We recently just started taking MZI, which has the magnesium, zinc, and iron. I'm not sure you can find a more affordable mineral supplement. $30 for a 3 month supply.

For MTucker - Do you use Accentrate with or without a stimulant med.

My daughter was on Focalin for 2 years and she was eating less but nothing so extreme. However, she began being so defiant and moody lately, we took her to a psychiatrist and he changed Focalin to ADHansia plus prescription prenatal vitamins. She is doing great with this combination.

Good luck!
