My 9 year old grandson has adhd & is currently on Concerta & Clonidine. He also takes a multi-vitamin & probiotic. Does anyone use supplements as well as medication & if so, which ones?

Supplements for ADHD
We use omega-3 and melatonin (1 mg) to help with sleep. I've been reading the book Getting Ahead of ADHD: What Next-Generation Science Says about Treatments That Work―and How You Can Make Them Work for Your Child by researcher Joel Nigg. It's very good. He reported that the science does not indicate supplements (other than omega-3) unless the child is deficient. His info is also featured on the CHADD magazine here: additudemag.com/adhd-lifest...
Have a great day!

Our 9-year-old grandson is on Concerta XR and takes a multivitamin and Melatonin for sleep. We are having some issues with his behavior at home right now, and I think he needs something besides stimulants to calm him down after the Concerta wears off. He acts worse than he did when he wasn’t taking Concerta (more impulsive, restless, etc.).
I am curious about what Clonadine does for your son. We are in the process of having everything re-evaluated right now and have an appointment with a psychiatrist in a couple of weeks. The other supplement we have tried is RelaxMax, a powder that mixes with anything. It contains magnesium and GABA amino acids that are supposed to have a calming effect. We have not seen any improvement with that so far unfortunately.
our 11 year old son was on Concerta and had that "drop" once it wore off. The doc started having him take a low dose of Ritalin at like 3:30pm to help smooth out that "drop" with the Concerta wearing off. It definitely helped- not that much at first but they bumped out the dose of that second pill and it's working great.
my son is a very high metabolizer and also had this problem. at first he was taking a 20mg methylphenidate in the afternoon. now there is a medicine called aptensio. it gives him a low dow in the am and a stronger dose later in the day. it seems to work well. our dr. also writes a prescription for a booster dose that we use if we have to be out later than usual or have a function in the evening. hope this helps
My son takes Concerta ER and Ritalin as an extender, which he takes when he has sports, Scouts, play dates, etc. I am trained to manage the drop at home so he doesn't extend if we aren't going to be out and about.
My son is 10 and he takes Concerta intuniv and aptensio in the morning and clonidine at bedtime. he eats well in the evenings and has not had weight loss on these. he is never sick so other than a multi vitamin i dont give him anything else
