Dexmethylphenidate ER 20mg

Hi all, I am the mom of a 12 year old that I knew had ADHD when I was pregnant with him! We didn't start the process of finding the right meds for him until he was 6, when he was officially diagnosed. Adderall and Concerta, at different doses were the drugs that we began with, but just before he graduated from elementary (6th grade), early in May we changed to Dexmethylphenidate and it finally worked! We don't medicate him when he's out of school, so I am reliant upon his teachers as to the effectiveness of his meds. His teacher caught me the last week of school and said, "what have you given him?!" She said this with wonder and went on to say that it is like we switched a light on and everything that she had repeated over and over again, that he couldn't remember, he now did without a reminder! What is the brand name for Dexmethylphenidate? I'll go look it up. It's nice to hear a success story for once!

Focalin Xr is the brand name.

My son has been taking this for almost 2 yrs & I too try not to give it on wkds & in the summer, but am undecided if I’m helping or hurting him by doing that. But I totally relate to depending on the teachers for feedback - which can be frustrating.

Just wondering what dosage your son is on? My son is going into 5th & takes 10mg; in someways I feel like he may need more.

My son is going into the 7th grade and he takes 20 mg. He took the same dose as your son, going into 5th (10mg).
