child has ADHD,trying to find right meds...

I have a 9yr old adopted daughter who’s got both inattentive & hyperactive ADHD, we have tried, Adderall RX, Focalin, Guanfacine, Straterra, now methylphenidate, and we are still struggling. I know there’s no one cure, just wondering what works best for your kids.. she also takes supplements, calcium, zinc, magnesium,omegas 3/6 ,multi vitamin, and melatonin for sleep . I’ve tried essential oils too. I’ve read of maybe taking guanfacine and methylphenidate but is that too much?thanks- stressed out mama.

No offense, I haven't heard that a child having inattentive and hyperactive Adhd, is usually one or the other with add ons , ODD, depression, etc. Both of my sons have been on a shopping spree of meds, They began Adderall the beginning of the school year and now it's losing it's luster. previously they have been on the normal rounds of meds, Ritalin, Concerta, Vyvanse, focalin, w/ quancfine,paxil,. One med in the am , 1 med at school. I also had them on cocktail of vitamins, .that was abandoned, no real significant change. I had to wait until my son turned 12 to get those prescribed sleeping pills. Yes!!!!. Melotin is like candy to them, it may give them 3 hrs of sleep. I have one son w/ inattentive ADD, the other with hyperactive w/ high functioning Austism . Check out Russell Barkley on youtube, the 30 essential of ADHD.

Does your doctor tried increasing the medication or giving an extra dose at lunch time? We've had to do that with ADHD especially as they've grown. ADHD is a combination of inattentive and hyperactive. ADD it's just inattentive.

As my grandson's have grown older we've had to add antidepressants and mood stabilizers to keep them steady.

My son takes Focalin and Guanfacine. Focalin before school and Guanfacine at night along with his fish oil. Things are better for him now but not where he needs to be. He has been diagnosed with ADHD combined type and we are possibly going to consider moving to Strattera. A weighted blanket is helping at night for sleep.
