Guanfacine

Either it’s like, “guanfacine was a God send for my child.” OR it’s like “my child passed out on guanfacine,”/“my child couldn’t sleep on guanfacine,”/“my child had horrible nightmares and hallucinations and peed his pants all the time on guanfacine.” It’s all making me very nervous.

Anyone have issues like this switching to ER guanfacine from regular? Meeting w psychiatrist next week to discuss as well.

Does anyone have WPW also take guanfacine? I was diagnosed ADHD and WPW at the same time a few months back. The WPW means i can't take adhd stimulants. However, i've recently been looking into guanfacine, which is a non stimulant that helps with ADHD.

is anyone using guanfacine? Can you share the experience of this med? Thank you

We waited until he was 8 to try medicine which was Guanfacine.

Because of the hyper/sensory/impulsivity need we’ve also tried some stimulants and guanfacine. We’re still in a place where he’s tearing apart a classroom or aggressive towards adults. He’s in a therapeutic school with lots of supports.

Will go back to short acting like he was on before and change his guanfacine to extended release and up it to 2mg if the 1mg isn’t enough.

He currently takes 1mg immediate release guanfacine and .5mg resperidone in the morning, 1.5 guanfacine at 4pm and 1mg resperidone at bedtime. I believe the guanfacine is not enough but before resperidone we tried increasing it and it makes him irritable/angry.

Hi, need advice - my 5 yr old daughter is on Quillivant 15 mg during the day and guanfacine 1 mg at night- she is always in her own world and does not focus on writing, we have recently adjusted the medications and she has trouble focusing while I am reading a story book.

I am wondering what you think about stopping medications like Ritalin and Guanfacine over the weekend, resuming them Monday for school? I have been doing this to allow her to get her appetite back and get better sleep but I am not sure if I am doing a disservice to my kiddo.

My 7 yr old son with adhd who had been taking Concerta recently had Guanfacine added and takes it in the afternoon. The results have been amazing. For a week almost no issues at all. My wife and I couldn’t believe it. But last night he was extremely difficult when it was time for homework.

Tried stimulants and guanfacine for awhile that made his anxiety waaaay worse. On prozac, we saw an almost immediate improvement in irritability, rage and major anxiety that was making life unmanageable for everyone. He's soool much happier.

He is currently taking the max dose of Guanfacine after school. We meet with the med dr to talk about anxiety on 9/11 as he is constantly chewing his fingers to the point where he hardly has any fingernails left.

My son has been diagnosed with adhd a couple years back. He was taking Adderall XR but it wasn’t the right fit for my son. He is now 10 and we are starting with medication again along with therapy to help. My question is; can anyone share their child’s experience with me on this specific type of medication

My son started Guanfacine about 2yrs ago and takes 2mg of the extended release…he is constantly hungry and has put on some weight…does anyone else have a similar experience? I was also wondering if anyone has tried Jornay?

He’s been on Guanfacine for about a year and it helped a lot with the emotional issues but not enough and not at all with the hyperactivity. Any suggestions? I’m out of ideas but we can’t live like this. I love him so much but he’s such a difficult kid.
