Guanfacine

Hello We will be starting my 6 yo on Clonodine and stopping Guanfacine. WhenI asked the doctor if we need to titrate Guanfacine first she said no that they could be replace with each other. Just wanted to ask here if you did that for those of you that replaced Guanfacine w/ Clonodine.

I cannot say that the guanfacine is responsible but I am thinking of working with his Neurologist to wean him off and see if there is any improvements or setbacks and go from there. I’m curious if anyone has seen an increase in emotional behaviors with their children while on Guanfacine?

(Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse did not have enough info for determining any metabolizing issues) 2mg ER - NP suggested Guanfacine since stims were making anxiety worse.

Has anyone ever noticed (guanfacine or any other adhd med I suppose) having little to no effect on adhd symptoms while also on an oral antibiotic?

My 15yo daughters psychiatrist very recently switched her from Guanfacine 1mg ER to Guanfacine Immediate release. He instructed that we split and even quarter the pills and dose it throughout the day.

But today I noticed that the generic guanfacine refill I picked up for the same Rx and same dose of previous refill looked different than what I got in last months bottle. I realized that last month the 1mg Guanfacine ER pill has APO on 1 side and GUI1 on the other.

Hello, Wondering from this community if you've seen a correlation between Guanfacine and night terrors/ nightmares? My son is on week 2 day 6 of an increased dose (2mg ER, up from 1mg). It's causing tiredness and sleep disturbances.

Psych NP is adding in a low dose of Qelbree to the Guanfacine 2mg ER that our son already takes (had weird increase in vocal tics and hyperactivity with upping to 3mg ER). Has anyone used these in combo and had success?

Hi Folks, Any success stories on Guanfacine? My son is 9 years old, suffers from hyperactivity, impulsivity, and tics. Stimulants are no longer an option and after meeting with his new Pediatric Neurologist, he suggested trying Guanfacine next.

We are doing PCIT and tried Guanfacine but so far we haven’t seen much progress. His psychiatrist said the next step is trying a stimulant. I’m just nervous because he is so young but also want to give him the help he needs. Anyone feedback is appreciated. :)

Our doctor suggested we switch to Guanfacine immediate-release. He is currently on 2mg in the mornings, working our way up slowly over the last 4 months or so.

Our latest meds iteration took him off of Guanfacine (thought it was causing the aggressive behavior) and has him taking Effexor (SNRI for Anxiety) and Clonidine (to help with sleep).

He also takes .5mg of guanfacine in the morning and midday. How do you know if the adderall is having any effect ? His day was so so today - not that great but not horrible either. I thought we’d see obvious effects for good or for bad within an hour or so.. my husband and I are really confused.

Due to his impulsivity and sometimes unsafe behavior we started him on a low dose of guanfacine. Over the past few months we’ve increased the dosage for guanfacine to 1.5mg total ( 1 mg taken in am and .5mg in afternoon) and about a week ago we added 2.5mg of adderall.

I read good things about guanfacine and our pediatrician recommended trying this as a change to the stimulants. It’s only been 1 week: first gave him in the AM but he was out of it and tired, so we switched to PM. He is still out of it and tired.

My son started .5 mg of quanfacine at night for two weeks then moved up to 1mg at night. We thought we were seeing improvements but things went downhill with the increase from .5 to 1 mg. Very impulsive, chatty, can’t focus, etc. We’re back down to .5 mg to see if his behavior improves. Does anyone have

He started guanfacine non-stimulant in spring 2022 to help with his impulsiveness & aggression that was impacting school setting. The teachers saw an improvement pretty quickly and he ended Kindergarten on a good note which was a relief.

I am worried as it’s been two months now that he has stopped his medication and is in Guanfacine for last two months for his tics. Do we have parents here in similar situation who are waiting out for medication induced tics to get better? Does it get better? Or does it stay?

His dr suggested upping the guanfacine since he has seemed to tolerate that one. We’re at 2mg for the past week. He had some big emotional outbursts and aggression initially. That seems to have calmed down.

What experience have you had with non stimulant medication such as Qelbree, Guanfacine, Clonidine, Bupropion?
