Well, this morning, I had the second and final training session for my Nordic Walking explorations. I now know the ten steps taught by the British Nordic Walking Association:
1) Posture
2) Walk
3) Drag
4) Plant
5) Push
6) Extend fully
7) Release fully
8) Swing forward
9) Bend forward
10) Rotate
And after our morning session, I can feel it in my arms, glutes, and toes! As I mentioned before, it feels like a full-body workout, like taking your elliptical trainer for a nice walk outside!
I also used my new sticks… oops…poles. (And Aldi has some at present)
So I’ll be taking them out for a walk again this weekend.
So what walks have you planned for your weekend? Leisurely pleasurable ones? Meandering ones! Vigorous, active ones? Or jeffingly walk-jogging ones?

Good workout for you today CBDB, I haven't used any Nordic Walking Sticks on any of my longer walks, perhaps you have heard of The West Highland Way, a 95 miles walk in the West of Scotland from Milngavie to Fort William, I often walk up that route about 5 miles but come back, 10 miles altogether, but often see many walkers with large back- packs with Nordic Walking Sticks going the full 95 miles distance.The only walking I'll be doing this weekend is a walk to parkrun, on Sunday I will be going a short bike ride, have a great weekend whether you are 🚶 walking, 🏃🏾running or cycling. 🚲 👍
Watched thE west highland way Ian Robertson on tv it looks great. Not sure if I could do that walk, need it mostly flat . I can’t wear those walking shoes have bad feet anything too tight hurts nerves in feet. Would need stops along the way to stop overnight. My dietary problems a nightmare with gluten dairy and egg, find it really hard in b&b to accommodate my diet. I could walk part and turn like you do. Maybe when retirement comes in October. A very fit weekend for u👏😊
Hi Doris8, The West Highland Way is anything but flat, there are many hills on it, although the first 15 miles aren't too bad, once you get into the Scottish Highlands, for walkers going all the way, that's the second day, there are several videos on YouTube which walkers have taken a video of there walk to Fort William, take a look at one of those videos, walking The West Highland Way is by far NO walk in the park.
I know what you mean in terms of dietary restrictions. Ever since I stopped eating gluten (5 yrs), soy, dairy (3yrs) and alcohol (18yrs), going out has stopped being fun. More precisely, unless I bring my own drinks and food, it’s stopped being an option!
It’s a shame, but it is easier all around. So I know where you are coming from with food restrictions . (Sigh)
But the benefit is, I feel better than I’ve done for a long time, also thanks to running, walking, yoga and rowing!
Hoping you feel the benefits as well! And Plan B sounds great (retirement). Having plenty of time makes a lot of things easier!
Hello! Yes, I’ve hiked 3 days and 2 night’s worth of the West highland way. Also did a segment up at Fort Williams. But never the whole way! (I’m missing Scotland terribly! Loved living there for 10 years!)
Hey that’s sounds great but I’m not sure if I could get the hang of that. Probably sounds more complicated than it is. Good workout. I will do my long walk Sunday probably 9 km walking and last 1 km slow jog around grassy park. Enjoy your walk. 😊
LOL. We were visiting friends on Saturday and they wanted to see my hubby's new bike and mine too as we haven't been able to visit them since last year. So we both rode there and back 90 mile round trip so not too big a run. Windy but thankfully it didn't rain 🌧😃👍 not very scenic either as it was duel carriageway all the way as we were a bit pushed pushed for time 🥺Not a very exciting tale to tell I'm afraid 🏍 🏍💨
