Just joined, looking for walking for fitness tips, I'm quite a large old boy but have no difficulty getting around, knocking on a bit now so that combined with a recent stay in hospital has prompted me to try and drop a few stones, I'm also type2.
Would be great to find local people I could hook up with.

Hi and welcome to our little forum. Sometimes you can find local walking groups at your GP practice or in your local newspaper. The active 10 a good place to start if you are ready to pick up your pace a bit. Please keep coming back and letting us know joe you are getting on.
You can add more walking in a couple of ways. One is to get out more. Add an extra walk where you can. I've been trying to add in a walk after dinner a couple of nights a week. Another option is to add more walking when you are already doing that. Get off the train one stop early, park a little further away from the store, or add one extra block to an existing walk. I find them both really effective.
Picking up the pace is also good. And you don't have to go all out all at once. You can alternate bits of fast walking and regular walking if that appeals to you.
And adding the occasional hills into your journey can help as well.
