What type of phone do you have (Iphone/Android)? Different phones have different apps you can get on either GooglePlay or App Store for Iphone. I use an app for walking and Diabetes management. I keep track of when I get a mile. I've done a mile so far today, but during the week, it's a little more since I walk around at my job. The app I use is also free. Did you want a free app?

Go to the App Store for Apple and check out the free apps for walking

There is a good iPhone app that is only free for today as a special offer it is called runstatic pro. I used it for running but I have also used it for walking. It does distances and calories rather than steps but it is worth a look just because it is free today.

Hey there

I have been using a fitbit bracelet for ages. They are about £100 new but can buy cheaper ones that do the same job. EBay is also full of people selling new ones, as they got them as presents but never using them

I could not live without my Fitbit Charge

Thank you. Yes I've heard of this. I will take a look😊

I personally like knowing the distance I've traveled. That way I can visualize it, or plot it on a map. That way I also have a sense when I'm reading about walks or trails what I'm capable of. I don't have the same sense with steps.

I had my Fitbit for Christmas and wouldn't be without it!! Fitbit Alta ideal for women and tells you how many steps you have taken how many calories you have burned doing, if you enter what you have eaten fior the day it tells you how much to work off etc Oh and very easy to set up with iPhone and computer!!

Or if you want something low tech I have a small pedometer, it's an moron cost about £25, tucks in pocket or bra. You set your stride length for it to measure distance so not as accurate as a gps tracker, but I prefer to count steps if I'm measuring, I am very short so I travel a disappointing distance compared to someone with longer legs for the same number of steps!

Fitbit Fan

I started with a basic Fitbit which was very motivating. I then changed to Fitbit HR which also monitors my heart rate. It is brilliant. I walk at least 50 miles a week! I track my calories in, activities etc. I love the charts and stats so you can see how you are doing over a week, month or 3 months. So even if you have a bad day you can see the bigger picture. I've lost 26 lbs in 12 weeks. Well worth the money. Also have a collie cross who likes to walk 2 - 3 hours a day! Good luck. Daisy

Try downloading an app for your phone. Some are free, but otherwise they're not expensive.

10,000 steps a day is recommended, I don't remember who by. This is about 7km/4miles for me as I'm 162cm. Some will allow you to put in height & weight & can tell how many calories used, too.

I use a fitbit I got for my sixtieth its great but I go swimming but can't wear it in the pool,Groupon has one for twenty pounds and you can use it for walking, running, swimming, calorie counting logging exercise ect, thinking of buying one.

That's a good idea. Right now I just use the strava app. For eg. today my daughter, stepson and myself walked 9.9km in our area. Not all at once. It was such a gorgeous day we went back out again. I googled and converted this steps 12883. Not bad for a day. I'm just very happy the kids are joining me in trying to keep active.

I am curious about the couch to 5k app. I don't know if I'm ready for that. (I'm not much of a jogger!) But I wouldn't mind losing weight before summer.

I'm also horrible at diets!!

The next few months are going to be interesting. lol

ShadowDee ,

Would you be able to count carbs for each meal? This can help with weight loss and blood sugar control.

ShadowDee profile image
ShadowDee in reply toActivity2004

I think that's the only thing I've never done. I've never tried calculating my carbs. If it's easy I'll give it go.

Okay. I will send you a quick pm and let you know how to start with the totaling for carb counting in a minute. Please keep an eye out for the note.
