My Nike app measures miles not steps. is there an advantage to measuring steps over miles and if so whats the best app or method? thanks very much! Ed

I think it is a personal choice. I count steps on a daily basis but when I go for a hike I like the results in km's. Steps are easier for round the house and more accurate as no GPs is required.

How do you count the steps? With an app? thanks!

I now have a watch that counts steps but I started off with a pedometer. You can get them for around £5-8 upwards and they work really well. The benefit over an app is younjust clip it In to your belt and go. I don't tend to carry my phone around home with me so I was missing those steps with an app. I then got a misfit shine and I have just transitioned onto a garmin Vivoactive. I am the sort of girl that loves reading her stats so I really enjoy the watches that give you more information and I like to just be able to click into GPs mode when I go for a longer walk.

I uses" OMRON HJ-321 PEDOMETER ".You have to go to setting such as "setting your body weight, height, stride length,Date and clock etc" These can be set to either in metric or F.B.S.system. metric system will give you reading in kilometers and FBS will give you in lb,miles and inches.

You have to follow its walking style. It will count the distance correctly if you have set the STRIDE length accurately. Keep in your pocket or tied with your leg then by walking in a proper manner will give accurate result. If you tied with your belt or keep in a bag,ang that bag moves inconsistently with your strides it will give give inaccurate counting. No counting for going to upstairs or vice versa. only for steps counter walking style.

F.P.S. SYSTEM not F.B.S. SYSTEM as stated above..

Both are nice. But I have a sense of how long a kilometer is, but I have no idea how long 100 steps is. So if I walk 20 kilometers in a week, I can look at a map and get a sense of how far that really is.

One kilometer is equivalent to 1000 meters. Say if your average stride length while walking is 60 centimeters ,your 100 steps traversed will be equivalent to 60 meters, and for one kilometers traversing you have to go approximately for 1669-1670 strides.

Thus you can multiply how many kilometers you have traversed during week or month or in a year.

But it should be noted a man should traverse minimum 10000(ten thousands) and woman should cover approximately 8000( eight thousands steps ) in a day.

For every step covered you add one minute to your life.
