Hello, so I’ve been going through a really tough year: between breaking off an engagement, quarantining 3 separate times, traveling twice and coming in a hurry because of Covid (I’m afraid of flying) and recently a huge explosion that I was in the middle of.
I’ve been suffering from strong heart palpitations, nightmares and I cannot sleep through the whole night. However yesterday I slept for two hours, woke up in cold sweats, racy heart, trouble breathing and a very sharp pain in the back of my left shoulder going all the way down to my left hand. It felt like the beginning of a heart attack (I’m only 28).
I’m still in pain today and my heart keeps beating fast randomly throughout the day.
Could this be anxiety?

😕 Dealing with anxiety without support can lead to depression, and the start of a vicious cycle. Think about speaking to your GP, it’s probable they can recommend therapy, or medication, to help you get things into perspective. You may already know there are other support groups on Healthunlocked who can give the specific support you need. If not, type ‘Severe Anxiety’ in the searchbox (above right) to see links.
Oh my goodness this is the textbook example anxiety. Two suggestions here....maybe three. Begin using the tools in the anxiety toolbox right away to combat the anxiety. Meditation and prayer, journaling, exercise, time with supportive people, self-care (which involves many of these suggestions). Seek out therapy to begin sifting through the triggers and help you deal with the anxiety at the source. And last, would be possibly medications to help lessen the physical symptoms while you deal with the emotional/mental aspect in the care of a trained professional.
I was on 3 meds for a season. Eventually that season passed and I came off the meds. My prayer for you is that you know you are surrounded by supporters!
While anxiety is a possibility, so are heart issues, thyroid issues, supplements, amongst other things. It would be best for you to see your doctor to get tests to rule out anything more sinister, just to be on the safe side.
Do you take any medications? Supplements? Some supplement can do this if you take them too close to bed time.
