Kefir?

Hi. I just wanted to share that I started taking Kefir every night about 6 weeks ago. And it has improved my chronic UTI symptoms a lot. 😊

I tried it because my partner read on the Zoe website that it can help fight the bacteria in the urinary system by improving your immune system. Has anyone else tried?

It's proved really simple to do, I bought my original grains online for £10. They come with instructions, then all you need is a couple of clean jam jars some milk and you are away. It ferments at room temperature too.

If you decide to try it, I hope it works for you, and continues to work for me. 🤞

Hi,

I started drinking Kefir a few weeks ago to help protect my stomach from the high dose of steroids I am on, and also to help the insomnia caused by the same. I had heard that it could help with sleep; it certainly seems to be helping me.

Hi Lenore. Thanks for replying. I'm so glad to hear it's working for you.

I was just saying to my husband, I even think it's improving the bags under my eyes. Which at 64 can't be a bad thing! 😊

I’m 65… Now that you mention it mine seem to be looking better too! Although I have moon face from the steroids, so maybe it just balance, my bags out, ha ha!

I used to make my own yogurt but I’ve never made my own Kefir. It’s easy?

Hi Lenore. That explains the 58. I was born in 59. Where did those years go?

What type of kefir are you taking? I know you can get it in powder form.

Yes I've found it really easy. I bought a sachet of kefir grains online for £9.99. Which is all it has cost me because we have dairy milk in the house which I would be drinking in other guises if not as kefir. If you've made yoghurt it would be no problem for you. And grains I bought had instructions with them. The grains look like rice grains and they grow.

So I put the grains in a clean glass jar and add about 250mls of any milk (plant milk will work too, it's a bit more complicated tho). Leave a bit of headroom in case it goes mad. Cover with muslin and a rubber band. And leave it at room temperature for 24/48 hours.

Then strain with a sieve. Bottle the sieved milk and refrigerate. You drink this kefir milk, I have a little glass full every night before I go to bed. Don't mix it with a hot drink because it will kill the good bacteria.

The remainder in the sieve will contain your kefir grains. So just start the process in the jar again with some new milk. In the end you should have so many grains you can split them and freeze them. You could always pass them on to friends.

🤗 I have. And also made cheese and butter.

A good kefir milk is thickish, slightly fizzy and beautifully sour. I think. Goodluck.

If you use plant milk every 3/4 times you should give the grains a little bath in cows milk to perk them up otherwise they may die. I've also noticed on cold days they are not as active as warm days. But they are a living thing and I know how they feel 🤣.

Gx

I am in the States; in California. I have been buying organic, grass-fed cow milk kefir. I have a favorite brand that is thick, tangy, and delicious (and pricey!) Hope I can reproduce it well, bc I just ordered kefir grains online. I’ll use organic grass-fed while milk. Thank you for the tips on making it. I’ll let you know how it goes! (I’ll be leaving the state for Christmas with kids and grands shortly after they arrive so I won’t be making my first batch of Kiefer until after the first of the year. )
