Itchy Scalp

I had this itchy scalp on and off for over a month now and saw primary and dermatolgist who saw nothing in scalp as said it was inflamed as was prescribed clobetasol .05% foam, ointment and shampoo which didnt help and said i have a very dry scalp. I started using tree oil shampoo and conditioner by Ogx and did some research on google (which i know i shouldnt have) and said it is a sign of skin cancer as i do wear a hat while walking and hat in pool so now m nervous. I have a second opinion tomorrow with a new dermatologist and was told over phone he might want to do a biopsey, which im refusing as this comes and goes as i could go a whole day or even hours with no itchiness. Want to know if anyone had same problem as now im in a panic over this . Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all :)

Stop worrying. Lots of people have itchy scalps, have you tried a shampoo especially made for it? I know Philip Kingsley does one but there are probably others around.

I was actually diagnosed with skin cancer a year ago, I had a small spot on my head that kept bleeding. The dermatologist operated on it in February and took a biopsy. When the result came through it hadn’t been cancer at all, it was just some sort of an immunity thing.

You wear hats, you have protection so stop worrying, if they want to do a biopsy let them. At least it will put your mind at rest.

Hi,

Try a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with the Mother( you can buy in Aldi) in a mug of water & use as a rinse on head. It will stop any itching & calm it down.

If you think it’s an allergy try drinking a teaspoon in a little water , you can add honey if you don’t like the taste.

Good luck

Try avoiding sulphate as shampoos and take an antihistamine for a few days.

I don't react to all of them and it seems to need another trigger but I definitely have some sort of allergy.

I find that my allergic reactions happen on sensitive areas first and don't progress past insane itching.

i got medicated shampoo and now this new dermatologist states i have seborrheic deramatitis which is baffling as first dermatologist saw nothing as am concerned about the diagnosis as if is only on top of my scalp and font want to go from doctor to doctor as i have no flakes or dandruff on head and my symptoms aren’t what they say thus diagnosis is. Your feedback on this is appreciated. Thanks

Hi Anne, First, if the doctor didn't see anything on your scalp then there's nothing to biopsy. Second, how's your digestion? I'm a Clinical Nutritionist, and became one because none of the doctors I saw years ago could figure out the itchy rash I had, and a Clinical Nutritionist did! She discovered, I had a leaky gut and my body was reacting to what I ate most, gluten. ( I had no other real digestive symptoms, occasional gas) So you may try going this route, if you have a leaky gut it can lead to a lot of other health issues. Not sure where you live, I'm in California. Would love to hear what you try, and find as a solution.

Went second dermatologist for second opinion and said i have developed Seborrheic Dermatitis on scalp and told me it was sub (meaning he said under the skin) and gave me a new medicated shampoo and told me to use 2-3 times a week and alternate it with the regular shampoo and tea oil shampoo and conditioner and concerned why the first dermatalogist didnt tell me that as i was concerned but had report sent to my primary with a follow with her end of month and a follow up with new dermatologist in september to see how i am doing as it is not as bad as before as it is on and off and hope this flare up will go away as just happened out of the blue. Await your reply

Glad you found reliefh. However, finding out why you have it is really the key. My dermatologist got me temporary relief, but I got rid of my rash forever, when the Clinical Nutritionist discovered the cause of the itchy skin. That may be your next step.
