Endometriomas and endometrial ablation?

I’m 38 and have been going to the drs for the last 7 years for painful periods. After finally convincing him my dr referred me for an ultrasound “for my own peace of mind” last Friday.

It has come back showing 3cm x 3cm endometriomas on both ovaries. The dr has referred me to a gynaecologist and I’ve received a call today from the secretary at my doctors telling me that gynaecology at the hospital are transferring my referral to a consultant for an endometrial ablation. I understand from what I’ve managed to google that this leads to infertility and im unsure how this resolves the cysts on my ovaries. I assumed from the outcome I’d perhaps be referred for laparoscopy. The dr has written on my referral endometriosis across both ovaries.

Has anyone else been in this situation? I don’t want to be left infertile due to what is really the negligence of my doctors surgery but also is this my only option? I’m gutted!!

Any advice of information would be so appreciated!

Thanks for this. I’ve read a few things online that say they are not as straight forward as they make them out to be. I honestly assumed I’d have a laparoscopic investigation as everything online suggests as such. I’m so confused.

as a parent with a 16yo daughter who had 16 lesions excised, please advocate for an exploratory excision surgery and not ablation. Endo research and awareness is soo underfunded and misunderstood.
