Itchy skin - heat

I have a number of ailments, hypothyroidism, ME/CFS, Menopause & Fibromyalgia so I don’t know which, if any, are causing my skin to itch so bad in the heat? I avoid the sun & use sunscreen which I thought would help but the itching is persistent. Any advice greatly appreciated.

🙂This could be due to something as simple as Prickly Heat..

Thank you, I’ve looked at all sorts & I think it might be that. I’ve had it on & off for years but not as bad as it is now. Just desperate for some relief 😊

Hi Suei

I too suffer with the heat in a similar way. I found that I needed to use a mineral sunscreen. Not all sunscreens are equal in their protection and price is rarely the indicator. Do an internet search for one based on your skin type. As you mentioned avoiding the sun is great when you can but not always possible. I find that because I have sensitive skin the less exposure the better so I wear really light clothes when I do have to be out. You can also buy clothes with sunscreen built into the fabric, they can be expensive, so I usually pick up something cheaper in TKMAX or on sale in the outdoor shops. I find that if I wear sunscreen too often that irritates my skin, so I do a little of everything to mitigate the itching. I also take anti-histamine if I have to be in the sun for any length of time. I’d suggest chatting to your GP or Pharmacy for advice. Hope you find ways to manage it, you have my sympathy.

Thank you, I’ll have a look. I had some hydrocortisone cream so I’ve put that on today & not been too bad thankfully but that’s not a long term solution.

Thanks again 😊

Hi Suei - I tend to have quite itchy skin (I'm also hypothyroid and Menopausal) especially at night - I've found that putting Epsom salts in a bath before bed helps.

I think I've also read that itchiness can be linked to vitamin B12 deficiency so you might want to check that out.

I hope you can find something that helps soon.

underactive thyroid and perimenopause here and I too have itchy skin worsened in this heat. In my case it is eased by moisturising three or four times a day, especially on my lower legs. My doesn’t feel dry but it’s ‘thirsty’. The relief when I put cream on is immense and the itching goes for a few hours

Might you have seasonal allergies? My skin itches like crazy during allergy season. Benadryl (I take generic) tablets help.

Thanks, I take them already too.
