Menopause
yes check with you Dr. It could be iron deficiency and low ferritin protein as this can cause hair loss. I had very low ferritin. Should be 50-100 mine was 10.
So can some forms of HRT. Also stress. There are many reasons why hair loss can occur. My hair started to fall out when my brother became critically ill shortly after my fit relatively young husband had a stroke. It took a lot of getting over as both of them were fit healthy men and this came out of the blue. I visited my brother every day in ICU pre CoVId and it was very hard seeing him so poorly. 5 years on he is fit and well so is my husband and my hair has improved. I use Plantur 39 for menopausal women after a lady recommended it to me. 5 years on still using it to good effect. Tonic is also good.
Around that age is very common for thyroid conditions to start. Do you have any other symptoms?
I'd strongly recommend you request your GP to do FULL thyroid tests (T4, T3, TSH and thyroid antibodies), and ferritin, folate, Vit B12, Vit D, and a full iron panel. Any of those being low could lead to hair loss.
Also, post this question on Thyroid UK Health Unlocked, for comprehensive advice
Iam on thyroid tablets,
What are your blood test results? Always request a printed copy of the results, with their reference ranges, or download them if you have online access.
Don't let a dr say they're 'normal' or 'in range'. They need to be optimal for you. Sadly, drs are often poor understanding of thyroid conditions.
You absolutely need all those tests done that I suggested above.. and get copies of the results. And post results on healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk
My hair is fine, straight and thin..it fell out after chemo but seemed to grow back thinner than ever…and I seem to be losing it more when I wash it. I’m well past menopause, and not positive for thyroid problems.
I didn’t realise there were so many reasons for hair loss
hi...once you've done allyour exams and everything is ok, i'd say it may be stress. I have a similar path and diagnosed with fibromyalgia too. We think we are not stressed enough to cause such effects is our bodies, but i guess everyone is different and our age and bodies change too, on how we cope with things. I am struggling with hair loss and anxiety for some time, plus sleeping issues and fibro. I am just starting to accept i need some help to cope - therapy and medicine. Needless to say It all started when menonopause hit in 2019. altough I take hrt, everything has changed changed. (ps excuse me for my english - I am not native speaker)
