Hi all
I posted on here before about an ovarian cyst. Just wanted to give an update in case it helps anyone going through the same thing.
I had my op on 15th November, they managed to do it via keyhole surgery. I have 4 small scars instead of one big one.
The doctor said the cyst was very big, and they removed my right ovary with it.
As far as post op goes, here's a list of things I wished someone had told me before :-
- I didn't realise I would need sanitary pads, and no one told me. Luckily the bleeding wasn't too heavy but I totally zapped needing those.
- I was bloated for a couple of days - they apparently pump air into your body to give themselves room to work. I could have taken gold in the fart & burp olympics if there were such an event.
- I also needed to pee A LOT - they had me on some sort of hydration drip thing and that's another olympic event I could have won
- the pain wasn't too bad. I had the most pain from the scar in my belly button that really pulled whenever I sneezed or coughed. I kept waking up the first night home because it hurt to turn over.
- I have two dogs and bending over to poop scoop was hard for about 3 days
- I was on anti-inflammatories for 5 days, no antibiotics (which surprised me)
- I was operated on in the beginning of the afternoon (2pm) and they kept me one night (maybe if I were operated on in the morning, I could have gone home the same day??? Maybe? who knows?
- I was totally woozy for hours after the anaesthetic, so I wish I had taken a written list of questions to ask instead of trying to rely on my memory. I forgot so much stuff I wanted to ask
- I was told to take the plasters off in the shower the morning after the op and leave them open to the air - no dressings to change, no going back to have stitches out
- I made an appointment with my own GP and got my questions asked afterwards, so all was not lost.
Hope that helps
