Giant ovarian cyst- very worried

Hi Everyone ,

Its my first time posting here but I read some posts and it seems like a very supportive community .

I am 42 and not menopausal.

I ended up in hospital due to severe pain in my right ovary . After scan I was told this was as due to a raptured cyst in my ovary and nothing to worry about , however they found a large mass in my left ovary . It’s 17cmx5x15 cm.

The USG report says it’s a simple cyst with some walls hardened .

The consultant advised there was no evidence it was cancer but I had to have an urgent MRI with contrast to exclude that due to the large size .

I had an MRI and taken blood for Tumor markers including CA-125.I have an appt with Gynaecologist on Friday to discuss the results and plan the treatment.

Initially I was quite calm and reassured by “ no evidence of cancer “ but now reading more I’m aware USG won’t show cancerous cells and I was told the size of it was unusual ..

I experienced bloating prior to it for years but I was told it was IbS.

Im very worried now as I can’t find much information about cysts of that size , so I’m wondering if any of you had that large cyst and what was the diagnosis?..

I started feeling extremely worried now and consumed by that and the waiting for an appt is stressing me out so much ..

I hope someone who had similar experience could share here ..

Thank you and lots of love

Marta

Hi Marta 🙂 I hope you’re reassured at your upcoming appointment. It’s likely you will get replies, but in the meantime this link shows posts to previous discussions about large ovarian cysts..

I experienced abdominal pain intermittently for quite some time and was treated with antibiotics for presumed bladder infection to no avail. Then a Family Planning Clinic noticed the shape of my lower abdomen and within days I was operated on for the removal of a 15cm ovarian cyst, non cancerous. I was 31 at the time. I am not medically trained butI deduce that a large cyst is not necessarily cancerous. It does though need attention . Take care.

Hi Marta, I recently had an op booked to have a large cyst removed from a very delicate place (I'm male!!!). The surgeon on the day talked me out of it. He said I'd be entering a world of pain for no good reason. My only reason was a fear that it might burst. He assured me it is nothing more than a bag of water and that the water would disperse if ever it were to pop! I declined the op. If it becomes an issue due to pressure on other bits of me I can have it syringed! Hope this helps.

Hi, I had a large cyst on one of my ovaries and had it removed by keyhole surgery, which entailed going through my belly button. I'm sure if they thought it was cancerous you'd be whisked in for op very quickly. So try not to worry too much. Hope all goes well for you.
