Suspected mild interstitial fibrosis

hello

I have just received a report from my consultant after having blood tests, X-rays, ct scan, etc.

Also it said showing some mild sub-pleural reticulate with some mild ground -glass changes.

The overal conclusion was of suspected mild interstitial fibrosis.

I haven’t got a follow up appointment yet, can anybody shed any light on this and is it treatable.

Thankyou Mary

hI thankyou my follow up appointment isn' t until December, just wondered if anybody else had this

We think the problem has developed because we have a parrot with all the dust and plucking out her feathers has caused the build up in my lungs, at least this is what the doctor said when he knew we had one.

we have had her 30years so reluctant to let her go. But we will have to if he finds out she is the cause of my problem

Hi Mary 🙂 I searched Healthunlocked for previous mentions of Interstital Fibrosis..but couldn’t see any links. It must be fairly rare.

30years is a very long time, pets become much loved members of the family..I hope you don’t have to let her go..

yes I did as well, I googled it and it did say dust from pets, my Respitory doctor thinks that’s what it is, but I need it confirmed when I see him in Nov/Dec .

I start off with a cough that leaves me completely breathless, and during the day when I’m walking or talking , I completely run out of breath and have to take a few moments to sort myself out breathing wise.

We thought our parrot was a boy when we got him (they are hard to sex) but 5 years ago SHE started plucking out her feathers she’s nearly bald and started laying eggs.

We don’t want to re home her, we and the children love her, but if I continue like this and it’s proven then we will be re homing to family or friends..

Sorry to go on.

Mary

🙂 The most important thing is to find the cause of your breathlessness

🙂 But..pets can surprise you..

I once took a cat to the Vet, and asked for it to be spayed. When I collected …it had been neutered 😂 Fortunately it had a unisex name

hello a bit of an update, I had another appointment 4months I waited, and my consultant thinks I might have the above, but he doesn’t really know, he has referred me to a another consultant for an endoscopy to find out about my breathing difficulties, this consultant sent me a letter and told me he would do the procedure himself but with a camera up my nose, (don’t like the sound of that) hope I will be sedated, so I’m waiting for that appointment.

The thing is last night, I was just sitting calmly no coughing , I did have a dry throat and suddenly my throat closed up and I couldn’t get a breath, I was so scared, I finally managed to cough which opened my airway a bit, but that started a coughing frenzy.

My husband thinks I should contact my doctor again but I don’t know what he could do that’s why I was referred to a consultant.

Quite a few years ago I had a colonoscopy that’s when they discovered I had a hiatus hernia, they are wondering if it’s related, also they mentioned that there was thinning of walls etc so I was wondering if my windpipe was thinning as well and causing me to choke.

Sorry for the long talk, but it helps to get it off my chest, it’s worrying.

Mary (73 this month) x

It is worrying when breathing doesn’t come naturally..

I’m experiencing a dry mouth..it can wake me during the night, my throat feels constricted due to dryness, and that can feel like choking

🤔 You could ring your Consultants Secretary, explain your breathing problem and say you would be able to take a cancellation at short notice
