Think I might have a prolapse. Is it common in a young woman who has never given birth?

Hi, I am due a cervical screening as I have just turned 25. However, I'm really nervous to book the appointment as I think I may have a prolapse. I can feel inside my vagina that there is a bulge quite low down. I left it for about a week, naively hoping it would go away, but if anything it feels more prominent. I feel super embarrassed and uncomfortable in my own skin since discovering this. I have always struggled using tampons, feeling like they were never far enough up, and now I'm thinking maybe this is the reason why.

I'm not sure if I should book an appointment for a generic cervical screening and mention it when I get there, or book an appointment specifically because I think I have a prolapse. I don't go to the GP about anything so I'm super nervous, and with it being such a private area of the body, makes it worse.

Hi, If I were you I would go ahead and book the cervical screening appt , they will be able to tell you if you have a prolapse and will advise you. I had a prolapse and they still managed to do the cervical smears etc. I hope this helps.

Any appointment I’ve ever had where I’ve felt awkward or embarrassed, well, the NHS are fantastic and will make you feel super comfortable. Go ahead and book the screening so they can help you find out what’s going on. Good luck 😊.

Please do get checked out, I don’t want to scare you and hopefully your problem is nothing like mine, but 25 years ago I thought I had a prolapse, however it turned out to be a non- hodgykins lymphoma, fortunately after chemotherapy treatment, I am now clear, but please please don’t leave it see your GP and also book your cervical smear.
