Fibroid Embolisation: Information, Support, Advice

FEmISA was set up by women whose fibroids were successfully treated by embolisation (sometimes referred to as UAE or UFE). Many of us were keen to avoid hysterectomy and we want to ensure that other women have access to embolisation for the treatment of uterine fibroids by: -

informing potential patients/women and GPs and gynaecologists about embolisation and its benefits

promoting embolisation as the treatment for uterine fibroids

supporting women with fibroids

helping and lobbying to ensure that all women have access to this treatment

First thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. A big thank you to you for sending me this link you have made my day.

Unfortunately for me I can't have a hysterectomy as I have discussed with the Maternity as it could kill me given my past history so the only way out for me is this Embolisation. I can't even have children because of my past history which I'm still finding it hard to come to terms with, I'm speaking to the therapist from the maternity hospital about this.

On a lighter note I have to pray to god this works for me as I hope it does as it looks like the success rate is high.

Again a big thank you for the link.

Hello, I had a UFE in 2018. I was 50 and had a sub mucosal fibroid of about 10cm. Glad I chose this route. Had extremely heavy flooding lasting weeks. I waswas taking Ferratin for years because of low iron. I kept asking for a Hysterectomy but they weren’t keen and offered this. My radiologist was excellent and it helped enormously.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with me. I'm sorry to hear what you have been through. For myself UFE is my only way out. Like yourself I asked if I could get a hysterectomy and be done with it as I can't have children anyway but that is non optional for me given my past history as it would have serious repercussions.I' m glad it worked for you as that gives me great comfort.

Again thank you for sharing your experience with me it has given me great comfort.
