Perimenopausal period issue - info needed please!

I’m perimenopausal, and have had a catheter in situ since a week ago. I’ve begun my first period in about 45-50 days, it’s the first since having that catheter in.

I know they’re both relating to different ‘holes’ but the issue is that the menstrual flow is black, sticky, and not “fluid” as it normally is. At first I thought it’s poo, but checking more closely it’s definitely menstrual blood.

I’m not sure whether this is a ‘normal’ part of menopausal symptoms, whether it needs medical attention, is it because I’ve now got a catheter in….etc. Has anyone any idea whether the black, sticky blood is normal when you’re menopausal, how to deal with it and so on.

I haven’t had that but there is such a wide range of things different people experience it can be hard to know. I’d mention it to your medical team to be on the safe side. Take care.

You may be alarmed to see black blood, but it isn't necessarily a reason to worry. This color is related to brown blood, which is old blood. It may resemble coffee grounds. Black blood is usually blood that's taking some extra time to leave the uterus.16 Jan 2018healthline.com › health
