Panic and anxiety

I’m having a lot of bad anxiety and panic today about COVID. I always wear a mask, hardly go anywhere, haven’t been in contact with anyone with symptoms, etc.

I don’t have any symptoms but I keep getting a dry spot in my throat, like a tickle kind of. I don’t know why but it’s freaking me out so bad.

Hi sorry to hear that. I had the same myself when my anxiety condition started due to bad life challenges. Clear your mind and focus on your breathing diet and health. Get rid of stress. Try to relax. My anxiety only receded when I learnt to take care of myself in a holistic way and took my time and made my life easier.

🙂 It’s well known that anxiety can lead to unexplained symptoms, often it can help to talk these over with people who experience similar challenges. There is another group here on Healthunlocked that may be helpful.. Type Anxiety in the search box (above right) to see a link 🙂

Please do not live in such fear. There may be a nasty bug out there, but people have been mixing together for months and months. If it was that bad, people would be dropping like flies after doing so but they are not. Don’t believe everything you see on the news, in fact stop watching it as the figures are manipulated. Hello. It is a very worrying time for all of us. 😐

In normal times staying indoors, not seeing anyone and not exercising is not the best for our mental health. If you possibly can, get some fresh air and exercise. Try and speak to your friends and family, about other topics, not the pandemic. If you have the tech to see people’s face when you talk, I’m sure that will give you a boost.

And try a vitamin D supplement. Our bodies absorb vitamin D through sunlight on our skin and a lack causes low energy and low mood. In the uk most of us need more than we are getting.

Maybe it’s something so simple you haven’t thought of it. Your throat might be dry because you’ve turned your heating on.

I always find singing helps me with a panic attack because singing helps slow your breathing down and lifts your mood. I’m a terrible singer!

Jigsaws, making Christmas cards, crafting, reading - anything to take your mind off Covid.

I know it’s miserable living with anxiety. (I’ve not been watching the news as it is too distressing.)

God bless

Because of my age and 'underlying medical conditions', I too have almost none of the contact with other people I had before the pandemic, and I live on my own. What does help me is going for walks - I go anywhere I'm least likely to meet anyone apart from others like me who are respectful of keeping their distance, and nice smiles as we cross paths is a bonus. I now probably know all the widest paths and pavements in the town. Sheer escapism helps - novels, films, comedy programmes and more classical music than I was listening to before. And planning each day - what am I going to do? Crossing things off on a list is always satisfying, and even when I 'fail' it helps with the next day's list!

I have to wear a mask most of the time now for work and that can give you a dry throat. Pleased I only work 3 days a week.

Try and loose yourself in a book.
