Did your period stop with the Mirena coil?

I've had mine for nearly 7 months and while it has certainly helped with my excessively heavy periods, it hasn't stopped them. I'm disappointed as I don't see any point in feeling rubbish every month, and am still hopeful they'll stop altogether. Does it normally take a bit longer than this?
